Sheets Werent Changed at Some Hotels (when guests check out) During COVD-19(including Trump International Hotel)
Something that the coronavirus pandemic has taught us is just how important cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitization are. For our health, for everyones safety. Places like hotels should be taking the Covid-19 lockdowns and the cleanliness extra seriously, considering that their business and peoples lives depend on this.
However, far from every hotel is doing things the right way when they reopened, as the crew of the TV show Inside Edition found out. Producers of the show checked into several high-end New York City hotel rooms and used a washable spray to apply logos to the bedsheets, pillows, and bath towels. These logos are only visible under UV light.

(12,858 posts)In IA in 70s IIRC there was quite a controversy about whether to still require that sheets, pillowcases be ironed.
And fitted sheets --what laws do we make about them?
Oh the innocent days of yore!

(17,531 posts)It cost money to launder sheets!
It doesn't affect me because no way in hell will I stay in a motel or hotel until the virus is in the rear-view mirror.

(19,199 posts)I may never stay in a hotel or motel again. Renting a motor home is looking like a marvelous idea for travel, even after a cure for the disease.

decorative items.
Also, the sanitizing wraps on cups, soaps, and other items, which while not opened may have been in contact with previous guests.
They need to face the fact that it's simply impossible to sterilize a space occupied for a length of time by a serial group of people on the cheap by untrained and uncompensated personnel.
Give up on back-to-normal profits-over-people for now Wall Street!

They should check the funk on the carpets too.
When I used to rent a room, I would take a large can of Lysol and dump it in the entire room, and hose down the floor too. Before that, I would then turn on the AC unit and spray some into the intake to get the funk buildup in there. Then, we'd go out for a few hours before returning to the room. In really fucked up rooms, the comforters would be sticky.

Yeah, I went to a supermarket in early March and they had a whole end cap filled with Lysol and I only bought two. This was right before the rush on toilet paper and wipes. I'm kicking myself because I haven't seen Lysol wipes or spray since.
I managed to just snag some medical grade N95 masks though.

(11,451 posts)At the time had a full can of lysol, thought it was enough...what was i thinking? Only bought more wipes because of a sale that if you bought more costs less.

(1,615 posts)to go on any vacations where I have to stay overnight at a hotel. If they are not cleaning the Trump hotels then they are not doing much cleaning at other hotels. one day drive and back home.

(2,244 posts)does that become a psychological pathology, I wonder?

Their newer hotel retrofits include bleached comforters and bedding.
Of course, they all have to be white to survive the cleaning process. So, if the Hampton isn't using white bedding, I'd give it a pass.

(2,244 posts)but I naively assumed the sheets would be changed.
Not sure I can stomach another hotel stay...

(500 posts)the way I expected them to be if I were staying there. I threw everything away, soap, cups, etc. whether they were used or not. All the sheets changed everyday unless a multi night guest requested no service. I could easily do my rooms within the time allotted yet other housekeepers were ridiculous. Only one hotel I ever worked at did not check rooms before I left for the day. Hampton Inn was the most insistent on cleanliness but I think that was the manager more than the chain itself.

(22,112 posts)ing in our group to always carry extra bedding w/ us (sheets pillowcases etc.) and used instead of the hotel provided sheets etc.
We even carried extra rolls of TP, cups, and four big towels (for the beach/picnics but also handy for drying off after a hotel shower). We kept all of this in a suitcase along w/ the rest of our clothes.
I am disgusted by the Trump's International Hotel response to the investigation (a $600 a night room), claiming 'fake news', w/o even attempting to admit they messed up, and got caught, or it truly was an oversight by their cleaning crew. What makes me wonder, is what else, perhaps, do they skimp on? Is the water that one drinks actually clean? Are the floors actually vacuumed? Just really how clean is the room? Just really how clean is the entire hotel?
This claiming everything is 'fake news' is getting tiresome, worn out, and overused and now rings a bell in my mind. When they claim 'fake news', it means to take a closer look at the claims being made, that something is in fact, a point or claim is pretty well on the nail head. I'm sure that the TV crew documented pretty clearly when they were at a place (and where) and can prove it, just in case someone would claim that it wasn't their place/room involved.
A cheap motel caught doing the same thing would simply provide more towels and not say a word, no need to. Maids (or cleaning person/crew) aren't perfect and may overlook some things when cleaning rooms - this happens (these people are being paid minimum wage), and some places couldn't get or hire a cleaning crew/maid service unless they had at least four rooms to clean per night (hotels would contract out maid service, had to have four rooms minimum per night for maids to work). This tidbit of news is from my days of running a motel for folks fishing at the state park located next door to us.

(9,952 posts)sheets weren't changed and I was pissed, made a huge deal and made sure everyone knew about it. The housekeeper was found and fired. I had to deal with complaint and was having none of it cause it makes my job just that much harder.
They do not do the blankets every time.
I hate hotels and the older I get, the more I cannot sleep in them. I take my own pillow but now I want my own blanket to wrap around. Hate hotels. I have gotten a bit germophobic as I age.
Customers ask me, would I stay in the hotel to get an idea if they want to. It is a hard question to answer because I am extreme in honesty. lol.
