from something I now will refuse to say.
Any ideas on what the new name should be?
I sort of like "Bullies" or "Busters".
Washington Bullies would be badass.

But Washington works for me, unless they want to call themselves Democrats. Of course, that wouldnt work well when they are losing.

(25,183 posts)by that time, they probably won't be able to have "Washington" in the name, anyway.

However, naming them after a Native American tribe still might not be such a good idea.

(853 posts)There is the Florida Seminoles. They actually received permission from the tribe. But their routine of the mounted "Indian" riding onto the field and planting a spear in the opponents logo is pretty racist. And there is the tomahawk chop. I don't think the Seminoles were a horse culture.
How about: the Washington LeFaunts.

Don't mind naming the team after a political party but I guess "Washington Democrats" is too much to hope for.

The Solons may sound odd, but somehow it seems appropriate for team representing the nations Capital, especially these days
Solon was an Athenian statesman, lawmaker and poet. He is remembered particularly for his efforts to legislate against political, economic and moral decline in archaic Athens. His reforms failed in the short-term, yet he is often credited with having laid the foundations for Athenian democracy.

Scottsdale Community College back in 1974 or '75 became the Fighting Artichokes. The students protested the amount of money in the sports budget and wanted that funding slashed. The took a vote and the colors became pink and white and they selected the artichoke as their mascot.
