What if you had a really nagging spouse and you wanted a break and took your dog to a state park

and then with all the peace and quiet you fell into a deep sleep like the Rip Van Winkle story and when you woke up many many years later you were a little disorientated but left the state park and went to the next spot you had wanted to visit before sleeping , which was Mt. Rushmore and when it came in to sight you could see Trump’s face had been added on the mountain ????

For me it would be like the original Planet of the Apes ending with the Statue of Liberty in the sand because it would tell me that once I wandered back out of the parks and in to society I knew what had happened , where it had gone while I was sleeping and what I would probably be facing.

I don’t know if it would be as deep a cut like the Lakota were given when they saw the desecration of Six Grandfathers
Records show the US first violated the 1868 treaty just 6years after it was signed.
The Lakota Sioux regard these hills as sacred, but the government’s quest for the gold found in that range took precedence. Miners flooded the area and demanded U.S. protection from Sioux peoples protecting their land, which lead to the U.S. finally seizing the land in 1877.
Nearly fifty years later, president Calvin Coolidge started carving in their sacred land.

Imagine seeing trump was carved on MtRushmore . You know he wants it.

Is the dog still alive in this story? If not, why include it in the first place?

4. I remember the dog doesn't recognize Winkle because of the long beard he grew while sleeping

I believe he wandered back to the village but is OK when Winkle awakes and returns home
I know his spouse has hit the dirt though it had nothing to do with him sleeping

Trump is no fan of animals . My dog should probably be barking and freaked out to see trump on the mountain too I guess in my version

I noticed that years ago. He goes along the beach at the end of the day and sees the statue but the shadows show the sun setting, not rising on the East Coast.

The home movies of Roddy McDowall (on YouTube) show makeup, the Ape Village set and the beach site/set - a wooden ramp was built around the point from Westward Beach to Pirates Cove for access to the beach set. The remains of the Statue of Liberty were shot in a secluded cove on the far eastern end of Westward Beach, between Zuma Beach and Point Dume in Malibu.[15] As noted in the documentary Behind the Planet of the Apes,[11] the special effect shot of the half-buried statue was achieved by seamlessly blending a matte painting with existing cliffs.
The shot looking down at Taylor was done from a 70-foot (21 m) scaffold, angled over a 1/2-scale papier-mache model of the Statue.
The actors in Planet of the Apes were so affected by their roles and wardrobe that, when not shooting, they automatically segregated themselves with the species they were portraying.[16]
