A friend of ours niece was screamed at while pumping gas because she was wearing a mask.(Westmoreland Co. PA).
One of my students, a beautiful intelligent woman of color was shopping in a Walmart in Ohio with her daughter and her daughter's friend, when a security guard stopped her and accused her of stealing a bottle of wine, even though she had her receipt in hand and the cashier vouched for her. It escalated into a very ugly situation.
My husband's cousin sells honey at a roadside stand in the mountains of PA (Fayette Co). He had 4 customers there and he and all of his customers were wearing masks. A man in a pick up truck (with trump stickers on it and wearing a dirty NRA shirt) sped into his area, jumped out of his truck and started screaming at them, demanding they remove their masks because this is all a conspiracy.
Happy effing 4th of July.

(23,308 posts)A few years ago, I sat on a jury...the crime was an alleged assault on a police officer ON THE 4th OF JULY. After hearing from the prosecution and the defense, the jury found for the defendant. Turns out the cop was a jerk of the highest order...while the defendant did punch the cop in the face, the jury decided that he had it coming. Thats my little Fourth of July story.

(5,591 posts)Theyll use any fd up reason to be assholes. The Cretin enables them without a doubt. But you know, people just have a tremendous capacity to be angry, belligerent, ignorant jagoffs.
This Administration has enabled the massive turning over of pond scum rocks letting out the ugliest humans in the country.
They have always been ugly and mean. We just have to do everything in our power to shove them back under their rocks, and stay sane and alive in the process.
No easy task.

(4,223 posts)She is a beautiful woman of color, married to a white doctor...well respected in that small town and they had to endure this horrible experience. Both are very traumatized. The cousin who was accosted by the trumphumper has serious heart issues...he could have ve died.
This is too much for me to deal with.

(3,551 posts)If the situation had happened to me, I know I would have been too mad to be civil, but having said that - I would have wanted to say something like this:
In America, we have lawyers for this and You will be hearing from mine. I suggest that you take this time to look into new job opportunities because I have no doubt that as soon as My attorney contacts the store, they are throwing your ass to the unemployment lines as they try and settle with me.

Every time I saw one of those idiotic Hillary for Prison shirts, I wanted to punch the person in the face.
but it was bubbling below the surface.

Now the monster is egging these people and actions on.
They all want a civil war that is not civil at all.

(16,925 posts)Pittsburgh is blue and has a wonderful understanding of "living together" for the most part.
However, if you go 20 miles out of town in just about any direction - you can be in some "deep red" neighborhoods.
I'd like to think that the "Trump Experience" has changed some of it - but I'm really afraid that some of those 37% people are indeed from this area.
Sorry for those that have experienced the "dark side" of the area. We keep making gains, but, as Robert Frost said: "...and miles to go before I sleep........"

(10,901 posts)... The directive from the White House management office was laid out in a memo to staffers Monday afternoon, NBC reported. ... The memo also asked staff members to avoid visiting the West Wing, where the Oval Office is located, unless it is necessary, the sources told NBC.
