With the number of coronavirus cases soaring in the United States, many elected officials are beginning to acknowledge that rushing to reopen was a mistake. Alarming indicators continued to mount over the Fourth of July weekend, with the rolling seven-day average for daily new cases hitting a record high for the 27th day in a row on Sunday.
Were right back where we were at the peak of the epidemic during the New York outbreak, former Food and Drug Administration commissioner Scott Gottlieb said Sunday, during an interview with Face the Nation on CBS.
To date, nearly 2.9 million coronavirus cases have been reported nationwide. At least 127,000 Americans have died of the virus.
