Another masking story

I went to my local Kroger to pick up a grocery order. While I was waiting, a young clerk came out with an order for the car ahead of me. No one in the car (WV plates) was wearing a mask. The clerk was wearing a mask, which covered her mouth but not her nose. So all 4 of those people (2 young women, 2 young children) exposed each other to whatever they are carrying along with them. The clerk spoke to me and said another clerk would be out with my order. I couldn't help very kindly telling this young woman that the mask wouldn't protect her if if didn't cover her nose. I put every ounce of my concern into my voice, and I hope she saw it in my eyes, as I was wearing my N95. She did pull her mask up and went back in the store without rearranging it. Seriously, I could have wept.

The clerk who brought my groceries out was wearing her mask correctly, and I thanked her sincerely. We both agreed it was really hot and our glasses fog up, but as she said, the mask will help us stay safe.

As usual, about half the people going in to shop wore masks.

if you doubt it. HEB has done a great job all the way through this disaster in spite of the lack of leadership from Gov Abbott.

4. Guess we have to face it. There are too many stupid Americans on the mask issue.

Wearing a mask is not a hard thing to do. Too many just don't want to and this virus will stay around because of it. trump and his sycophant repug governors blew the sacrifice we all put into the shelter-in-place months by re-opening too early and now no one is going to way to repeat that.

Getting rid of trump is our only hope as Biden will install a national policy for testing, tracing, isolation and treatment. I'm even worried if we do get a vaccine half of these fools won't take it because they're anti-vaxxers.

We are s-o-o-o-o-o-o-o stupid.

5. It does little to no good to just say "wear as mask".....

without proper instruction on how to wear it, and instructions are somewhat specific to each type mask.

But America thinks it knows everything it need to know about everything 'cause internet......

In a sane and rational world, a U.S. President might even do a PSA on public media to encourage the wearing and proper use of protective masks and other essentials during a global pandemic.

But to be fair to those here who cover the mouth and not the nose, here masks are called tapabocas, cover-mouth.

6. Glasses Fogging Up
Mon Jul 6, 2020, 02:14 PM
Jul 2020

I started putting on my mask, glasses off.
Then I put glasses back so the nose pads lay on the cloth.
I started doing it because it helps keep the mask up.
But, the bonus is I've never noticed my lenses getting fogged over.
Then, someone here at DU said they do what I do, because it prevents glasses from fogging.
I agreed because I noticed it, and I wasn't even doing it for that reason.
Try it & see if it helps.

Filters over chemical cartridge. I had glasses that fit into the respirator, and those never fogged, even in steamy environments.
That said, the exhale valve does efficiently relieve the air, so the moisture is likely all going out.
Didn't wear it a lot.
Maybe(!) 100 hours over 40+ years. So, my experience is definitely anecdotal.

I'm on Medicare, but I still don't trust others to handle my food the way I would and today reinforced my doubts! So no restaurants, no deli. If I get fresh produce, I rinse it with 1/2 vinegar/half water, then rinse with water and don't eat it for a day or 2. Save one cripser drawer for new, the other for what I had on hand.

you are required to wear a mask while in the store.

But I saw one guy in line at the checkout ahead of me who wasn't wearing one. His companion was.

I went to a different line where everyone had masks.

I assume they figured since he was already on his way out there was no point in kicking him out but I still wonder if he was the reason for the announcement. It was the first time since all this started I ever heard a store announcement like that. They don't generally have a gatekeeper informing people on the way in

BUT

I also stopped at Costco yesterday and witnessed the gatekeeper turn away a patron for not having a mask. He went back towards his car but I don't know if it was to get a mask or to sulk.
