'This is getting out of control,' says infectious disease expert about coronavirus

As coronavirus cases spike across the country, one infectious disease expert says the wave of outbreaks is “getting out of control,” as economies and businesses reopen and some states see social distancing standards relax.

“There is an old adage in infectious disease that a virus isn’t going anywhere until it’s eliminated everywhere,” Dr. Michael Saag, director of the Infectious Disease Division at the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine, told Yahoo Finance.

“Why don’t we direct our attention on all of us working together to have everybody wear a mask, stay at home at least for the time being,” he said. “Sorry, I know it’s not fun. But this is getting out of control.”

The United States is rapidly approaching 3 million positive coronavirus cases according to the Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 tracker, as the average case count in the country hits another record high.

Under a democratic president, issues a nationwide SoE with recommendations for masks in all public places? You think they're just gonna say 'oh. Well, ok then.'?

No.

They're gonna scream even louder about they're being fucking oppressed. Not that I care too much about what they do, but trump being out of office isnt, BY ITSELF, gonna get these people to help us solve the problem.

The COVID-19 pandemic was the only serious challenge Trump faced during his presidency and he has failed catastrophically.

our problem is that we have this thick vein of "freedom" that permeates moreso than other places to an extreme.

So combine the fact that half the population is of below average intelligence everywhere, but in other places, they are less prone to shout "Freedom" when the state says to do something, while here being told to do something just triggers the opposite response, and you get our problem.

Dumb people reacting to being told what to do. Predictably, that's to no do it, but do the opposite.

I don't understand the thought behind it, but there are people not only refusing to wear masks, but trying to get other people to not wear masks. It's nuts.

who want to affect others with this disease needs to hit their own families perhaps. All common sense is out the window with these people. We are spiraling out of control from people's hate and division.

Thus my by line. Strong united, weak divided.

because I'm so worried about Covid. My wife and I are still in quarantine, only going out for appointments and groceries. I think we're in deep shit and I don't see it getting any better for a long time.

We were looking at having this virus around for up to three years. Now it's looking more like at least five years thanks to the covidiots.

This is why we can't have nice things.

I'd say 3 million cases (which we now have), with 132,753 deaths, is well beyond "gettting out of control."
