Chuck Grassley will skip the Republican National Convention for the first time in 40 years, citing c

Citing concerns about the coronavirus, U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley said he will not attend this year's Republican National Convention, marking the first time he has sat out a convention since he was elected to the U.S. Senate 40 years ago.

"I’m not going to go. And I’m not going to go because of the virus situation," Grassley said Monday morning on a conference call with reporters.

Grassley, 86, said he has attended every RNC since he was elected to the Senate in 1980. The conventions are held every four years to nominate the party's candidate for president. This year, President Donald Trump will accept the party's nomination for reelection at a convention in Jacksonville, Florida, which is scheduled for Aug. 24-27.

This year's Republican convention was moved from Charlotte, North Carolina, after Gov. Roy Cooper and Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, both Democrats, wouldn't commit to allowing a full convention because of health concerns.

Grassley said it made sense to move the convention from North Carolina since the governor didn't feel it was safe to host a large gathering there.

Let the people watch their unmasking! They are going to pay for this.

I do not want to be the one that has to go back out there. I really am isolating and wearing masks.

he's enables the orange asshole...I think it's only right that he stand mask-less, shoulder to shoulder with his fellow slobbering Senate sychophants, sneezing and coughing while his/their great leader accepts the nomination and delivers a speech that Hitler would be proud of...I mean Grassley is 86 years old and probably has a number of underlying medical conditions but so what's the big deal if he finds himself in an ICU sucking air through a ventilator...he should be "honored" to sacrifice what's left of his life to lift up Trump's economy..am I wrong on this???.

He won't go to the Republican convention because of concerns about his health, yet he thinks the party was right to move the convention from Charlotte to Jacksonville because Gov. Cooper of North Carolina wouldn't knuckle under to Trump's reckless demands. Jacksonville seems eager to give Trump the boisterous petri dish of contagion that he wants, yet Grassley still won't go. It's okay for everyone else to risk their lives for Trump's ego, but don't count on Chuck.

* He would hold up a screwdriver and say something like 'I bought this at my neighborhood hardware store for $7, the Pentagon is paying $50!'

* He won the GOP primary against the incumbant. That man charged his visits to prostitutes on his credit card!!

* Retired farmers were eating breakfast at a local diner. I heard them talking. They were very down on the democrat because he looked like he spent all his time getting expensive haircuts. And little time working for Iowans. (He was in the House of Representatives.)

* I watched the 1st debate between Grassley and the democrat. My now ex was in rhe next room. When it was over, he said Grassley would win. I sure hated that idea. 'Why?' 'He sounds like Will Rogers.'
