Ugly racist attack in Connecticut

I've been outraged about this case since local police completely blew it and let the suspects walk out of a local hospital (they had requested to be taken there) and drive home. The video shows the second attack.

Mystic — Stonington police on Monday afternoon identified the white couple wanted in connection with the beating of a Black woman while she worked at the Quality Inn on June 26.

Police identified the suspects as Philip Sarner, 39, and Emily Orbay, 28. Police have obtained a warrant charging Sarner with second-degree assault and a warrant charging Orbay with third-degree assault.

...

Caldwell, 59, of Groton, has said a white New York couple called her an “old monkey” and told her “Black Lives Matter? Your life doesn’t matter, you don’t deserve to live on this Earth,” while beating her after complaining about the lack of hot water in their room. Caldwell suffered a concussion, a swollen face and a badly injured right eye, along with injuries to her wrists and ribs and back in two separate attacks. All three people involved were brought to the hospital after the incident, as the couple requested treatment as well.

Video from the hotel shows a man punching, stomping and body slamming Caldwell to the ground. Some have criticized police after the couple fled after being released from Lawrence + Memorial Hospital, a few hours after the attack.

There is a lot of local people asking questions about how they were allowed to get away.

If grabbing someone, gang-beating her, and flinging her to the floor is only "second-degree."

That was horrific. And the police didn't arrest them?
Thank god for security cameras, I guess. I hope they get turned in right soon.

This is a fucked up case. The fact that the incompetent Stonington police let the suspects escape and then took a week to issue an arrest warrant is enraging, and many local people are asking the right questions on why.

The lady in pink was trying to get ice. The hotelworker came up and pushed the button to help her. Then out of nowhere a man appears and slugs the worker, and his girlfriend shows up and hits her too and they fling her to the floor and the man kicks her in the head. The lady in pink seems to be trying to intervene, and the blond man comes in from the back and gets in between, and then the assailants run off. The lady in pink and the blond man pull the worker into the vending room (to protect her, I guess) and the man in the track suit comes up and stands in the doorway.

So there were three witnesses/helpers-- and these thugs still attacked her? For no reason? I mean, there couldn't be any reason for attacking someone like that. But even from their point of view, what? She's not even dealing with them. She's helping the lady in pink.

And it's ten days later and the police haven't arrested these people yet?

for this sort of thing, so it's kinda odd 4 police forces can't find him.

But, now the feds have their fingers in it, so it could be long, hard time.

And, of course we must ask the question-- if a black couple beat up a white employee, how long would it take to handcuff them to the hospital bed?

Caldwell, 59, was attacked twice by a couple from New York Friday, June 29 while at work at Mystic Quality Inn where she has been a desk clerk for seven years.

The State’s Attorney’s office signed warrants Wednesday for third-degree assault for the unidentified female suspect and second-degree assault for the unidentified male suspect. Police, however, have not been able to make the arrest as the couple ran from the hotel some time after the attack.

Caldwell also reports that she has received threatening Facebook messages from the couple since the attack.

See: https://www.wtnh.com/news/connecticut/new-london/couple-accused-of-attacking-mystic-quality-inn-clerk-yelling-racial-slurs-to-be-charged/

On July 1, Stonington police secured arrest warrants for the New York couple accused of attacking a Quality Inn hotel clerk and yelling racial slurs at her.

Police requested charges relating to assault and bigotry and bias. After review of the facts of the case, the State’s Attorney’s office signed warrants for third-degree assault for the unidentified female suspect – later identified as Emily Orbay – and second-degree assault for the unidentified male suspect – later identified as Philip Sarner.

Police say the two do not have permanent addresses but are known to be primarily in Nassau County, NY. Police are still searching for the suspects at this time.

You know, I realize it's not a capital felony, and I also realize that Stonington PD is not NCIS.... but come on, the reporting staff at The Day could find these guys by phone. Stonington police, CT State Police, NY State Police, local cops in NY can't find these knuckleheads? This is ridiculous. Incompetence abounding.

It is abundantly clear that nobody in Stonington made this a priority until it started hitting the national news. One has to ask if this would be the case if the victim was white and attackers black. I am pretty sure we know that answer, but go ahead and deny it just the same.
