am I understanding this correctly? covid-19 is so deadly that Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen had to be released from prison early, but it's also so benign that we need to be packing the nation's children back into their schools pronto? ok cool, that checks out

The C.D.C. announces it will issue new guidelines to reopen schools, hours after Trump assailed its recommendations.
Hours after President Trump assailed guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for reopening schools, Vice President Mike Pence, appearing with the White House coronavirus task force, announced the agency would issue new recommendations next week, saying they don’t want the guidance to be a reason why schools don’t open.

“Well the president said today, we just don’t want the guidance to be too tough,” Mr. Pence said. “That’s the reason why next week, the C.D.C. is going to be issuing a new set of tools, five different documents that will be giving even more clarity on the guidance going forward.”

It sounds like they are going to cave in and rewrite their recommendations to suit Trump. We are truly on our own with this. If I had children at home, I would seriously consider on line classes instead of sending them off to a classroom. I realize that kids benefit by the social interaction at school as well as the academic learning, but they have to remain healthy to enjoy those benefits.

develop bonding during this crisis. And some might survive. And their antibodies can be harvested.

There was a sci-fi book I read a couple of summers ago (a 13yo niece's) that talked about the governments trying differing biological agents on their own population to find out which subset of the population developed immunity to survive. And then they could develop an antidote and unleash the agent on other countries.

at all if the scenario described in the earlier post about starting an illness to get antibodies and then use the illness against other nations actually happens. There are people evil enough to do it.

the reopening by denying funds to states that don't reopen.

If I had a school age child, I would keep him/her home.

Sadly, most teachers cannot afford to quit or refuse to go back. And most parents would not have child care to keep them out of school.

We stood by while Trump caged immigrant children. Oh, we tweeted and e-mailed, called him names, and wrung our hands, but there were no large scale, ongoing, massive protests.

Will we stand by while he destroys the health of our own nation's children and exposes their families to serious illness and death?

Or will we, as a nation, stand up to him and say, "No more child abuse"?
