1. Trump won't turn over tax documents any time soon (and likely not before the Election). In both cases, The Court supported the RIGHT to access his tax and financial records, but allowed Trump to continue his legal challenges in lower Courts.
2. If Trump does hand over tax and financial documents, you won't see them.

(55,007 posts)so saying he lost twice today by his own appointees is still a win and you know he is taking it that way by his twit behavior so it is all good.
Besides, I think most everybody here understood we wouldn't see the tax returns ourselves.
The important thing is that forensic accountants comb over it with the cooperation of Deutsche Bank.

With no valid reason to hide, this is political poison for Trump through his re-election bid.

(2,018 posts)Do we need to see them before the election? No. Would it change the votes of his corrupt, hard-core base? No. Would it change the votes of anyone who is already fed up with his gross incompetence and malignancy? No. Would it bring apolitical people to the polls? No - they already are tuned out and would pay no attention to financial details.
This is a big win because it ends the debate over presidential immunity. As in, there is none. This has huge implications for Dump, now and going forward. Among other things, it allows him to be tied up in legal knots and tremendous worries through election season. It keeps the cases against him - and the stories about them - going through the campaign season.
Its not a total smack in the face of requiring immediate disclosure, which would be ever so satisfying to us and humiliating to him. But in the end its still a big win.

(52,160 posts)He was asked for a reason repeatedly and gave nada. Well here is a reason, one that I and other said back when this was first being discussed. Trump has gone around for years saying he has been audited every year for decades. Yet no tax cases were brought, no fines were paid, no settlements offered. So either, the IRS is auditing people for no good reason, or legitimate tax cases aren't being brought. Congress can't know which is true without seeing the returns. He is the only person saying this so his returns are needed. Had he said this, we would have those returns today.

I just heard Nina Totenberg (sp?) explain that the docs are heading to the grand jury right now.
