Several times he was asked in oral arguments to give a reason the House had a right to those records and he came up with pretty much nothing. When this stuff first was being discussed, I and many others said this, The President has gone around for years saying he has been audited for decades yet no tax cases were ever filed nor any penalties paid. So one of two things are true, the IRS is repeatedly auditing a person with no good reason, or valid tax cases aren't being brought. The returns are needed to decide which of those is true so the problem can be rectified. He is the only person saying these things so only his returns will do. Had he given this reason, we would have those returns.
