Looked at whole US.
Nationwide positivity is 8.1%, which is >80% above where it was in mid-June.
But, the really glaring thing was total testing.
There were 600,000 total tests, yesterday.
In looking at the Illinois DPH site, there were more than 36,000 tests here.
Illinois is about 4% of the population of the US. So, tests here extrapolate to 900k.
But, the actual was 2/3rds of that.
So, cases are likely much higher, given the 8%+ positivity, because some states are disproportionately high in tests.
That would suggest (with tenuous extrapolation) that new cases might have been 80k yesterday.

(25,926 posts)others not so much. I believe it comes down to having the testing kits. The mayor of Tucson, AZ talked about that recently on the Rachel Maddow show.
It's also a problem country by country. Some are testing a lot, others, like India, not so much. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/#countries

I wonder though, how hard some states are trying to get supplies.

(25,926 posts)has begged the President or perhaps those around him to send testing kits, but she's been ignored, apparently.
I also understand that the places making the kits are having a hard time getting the supplies needed to make them. Or run the tests themselves.
