(11,094 posts)He is so sorely missed today. As are many of the great intellectuals of the past, to be honest.
Society - at least as viewed through the prism of the mass media - has become EXACTLY what Sagan warned of 25 years ago. But to be perfectly fair, there was already a tsunami of stupidity on the scene in '95 (National Enquirer's Bat Boy ring any bells?)...
The problem we face today, and what Sagan did not consider in depth, is that one of the two major political parties has completely given itself over to the stupidity and superstitious beliefs and gone off the rails crazy. It has been an exponential curve of stupidity stretching from Reagan to Shrub to Palin to Trump, each one striving to "out stoopid" the predecessor. What Sagan was noting was the midpoint of the decline...what we are living is the exponential growth curve.
We're in for so much worse in he coming years...it is going to be horrifying.
