About De Santis comparing a school opening to an opening of Home Depot:

How many cases of head lice have you gotten from a Home Depot?

Just say'n.

Stupid comparison. Home Depot supports the six foot separations and limits the number of people inside the building when it starts to get crowded. School classrooms are much smaller and the larger class sizes are a major wrench in the works.

but no self respecting tradesman would use one. Rather, he would use his toad stabber to whittle one of three of four specific points, depending on the task, as he was taught years ago. He also knows the weird dimensions of the pencil and uses them to his advantage for very exacting work.

There's a lot of magic wrapped up in those stupid shaped pencils besides the obvious.

I bought a new mower at Lowe's online last month, and the store staff brought it out to me in the parking lot and loaded it in my truck.

What are the chances that teachers and bus drivers and cafeteria workers and custodians and office staff and the school nurse can all provide similar zero-contact service to kids in the human petri dish that is our public schools?

If we can provide good on-line education for most of the students, then we can open up the schools to a smaller class size that might need special attention to catch up.

I’m asking because I know dozens of teachers from pre-school through college and including specialties like music and dance.

They all say the same thing: Online teaching sucks.

There are so many nuances that cannot be addressed over a computer connection that the education is significantly diminished.

Granted, it’s better than nothing but it’s a poor substitute.

Here is a thought: there is an entire industry out there working on unbelievable graphics for gaming. Why can't we pair up teachers with programmers and come up with class sessions that are fun to watch?

I doubt I've ever spent more than 40 minutes in a Home Depot, and then on an average less than 2-3 times per month. Kids spend 7-8 hours per day in school, 5 days per week. And how are schools, already desperately overcrowded, going to achieve 6 foot spacing? The republicans' frantic and perverse efforts to achieve the appearance of normalcy before the election is going to put children in mortal danger, and potentially explode the spread of the virus to their families.
