&feature=youtu.beBet they never taught you about the light bulb filament either.
The light bulb itself was invented by Thomas Edison, but the innovation used to create longer-lasting light bulbs with a carbon filament came from African-American inventor Lewis Latimer.
Mikey was one of the great West Indian fast bowlers. He was among those who refused to play on a rogue team in South Africa.

(15,100 posts)Funny that I watched a rerun of The Big Bang Theory last night about Edison, Latimer, and Tesla. They had the same take.

(2,193 posts)I worked for an architect as a designer/inventor an my original ideas and patents bear his name, not mine, which is fraudulent but common.
Edison v Tesla was this on steroids and to this day Edison gets credit for being a fabulous inventor when what he really did was opportunism and theft, taking credit for others' ideas.
There are some great documentaries out there about the Tesla v Edison battle of the current, Tesla won but Edison still gets the fame and credit.
Latimer is just more of the same, POC and women regularly get robbed of credit for their contributions, part of our culture of honoring white men, it's just how it's been for so long.

(11,648 posts)I hosted two students from Chennai, India during the World Cup. They were devastated that India didnt win but the final match between England and New Zealand was riveting. If youve got four hours to kill, watch Lagaan, a Bollywood movie on Netflix. I promised one of the students that I would go to a match with her in India for the 2023 World Cup.

England are playing my side right now in a match with no spectators and two teams that have been quarantined in hotels next to the ground.
I love cricket..
I have my own copy of Lagaan -watched it back in my research days - amazing. British colonialism was evil
