We have moved to a camper life with our hcp daughter. who is well established in my posts here. Im gonna do long story short.

When we scoped out this campground and loved it. we had some extra time on our weekend trip, so I went to the local golf country club and inquired about fees and such. And that My lil girl would be riding with me from time to time. All good,,contact us when you get here. uhmmm so I did,,


When we moved I went in and paid initiation fee and all,,couple guys in clubhouse,I said Im new,,I'll but your next round,,they took. Then things changed, one guy asked me about my family,so I told him,, his response,, So you have a retard? I told him we dont use that word and I would appreciate if he wouldnt say it again. So he said, "then you are a retard too" So I immediately asked for a refund,,not given.
A month later,,many emails re my refund I decide to call the CC last eve. Oh My,, gal on phone (who was one who took my fee) called me a motherfucker, said I was rude to the guy in clubhouse and why would I even bring a ret**** to this town?

I didnt sleep last night, I never felt hatred like this. MrsK a bit more composed than me, contacted someone who will go to the board of directors at Country Club. I told her ok,,Im selling my golf clubs, I do not want to be around this kind of hate..

He has gone camping with us. I take him bowling. My other son is in LeMans type racing. Michael not only loves to attend the races, different teams have allowed him to sit in the cars. We have taken him to 5 star restaurants. We made arrangements last December for him to fly to visit his sister for Christmas, all on his own. The airlines were awesome and he got VIP treatment. Golf is a great sport with not the best demographic, to put it mildly. I have mentioned this on golf forums in recent years when discussing declining participation. Besides time expenditure and difficulties of playing the sport competently, why would young people want to get involved given the type of person they'd often encounter?

Every family and every clic group has its share of valued family members and friends who are challenged in some manner and to be honest w/ you, I think that they bring so much to the table, with their outlook on life, and magnificent viewpoints on the small things in life that the rest of us overlook (you know how life is, busy busy busy).

When I was young, I was profoundly hard of hearing (and they didn't know it at first what was wrong), so I was in a special school until I was 9 years old (my Mom insisted to the doctors that it seemed to be a hearing problem but they ignored her). Not until did I have a incident on the swing set (I got pushed off, broke my shoulder as a result) did I finally get a hearing test (at 9 years old)!

Once I was fitted w/ a hearing aid, my world changed. I was one of the lucky ones in that they found something wrong w/ me that could be fixed or rectified so easily. I know that in most cases, things can't be rectified so easily, a lot of my fellow classmates I went to school w/ back then were in this category, but I never imagined them to 'retarded'...never imagined it or even knew what the word meant at first. I still think of my fellow classmates so long ago in that special school, and everyone of them still has a special place in my heart. To me, they were my friends, and I theirs. I never knew that anything was amiss (and it wasn't).

I too was called a 'retard' back then (until I was 9 years old), I didn't understand the word back then (and I am guessing your beautiful daughter doesn't know what word means either).

To all of those using such a hateful word and reveling in it should be ashamed of themselves. If I were their mother, I would box their ears. This is pathetic and shameful behavior. We were all raised to be better than this and there's no excuse for such behavior other than just being a d**khead.

To this day, I laugh and mock at anyone that ever uses this word in a hateful manner. It's pathetic on their part and also they really don't know the true meaning of the word. My brother is "slow" and one of the most remarkable people I know. He was called a retard in the 1960's, sent to a special school. When he wanted to attend the high school I had attended he needed a 9th grade reading level to enter. I worked with him and he got his reading level up, graduated from the same high school I did, and even went on to take classes at the community college (because I was in college). He's slow, not stupid. It may take him a bit longer but he learns. He drives, lives independently with a roommate. And has more kindness and compassion than most people I know.

And about golf: I often think golf courses should be turned into farms and gardens; and golfers should become farmers and gardeners and get their exercise while growing edible or beautiful, fragrant plants. Maybe you and your daughter can take up that hobby?!?

My oldest has ASD, anxiety, SPD, and ADHD. When she was around 3-6 years old she was still learning to self regulate and had many meltdowns in public. I got many nasty looks and sometimes even a few comments.

This post happened on mid June,, it is now mid July and I will share,,,,, Tess isn't well she went from 85 pounds to 53 in these short weeks. While I love the support I have seen to this post,,, even her Dr in Tn who has taken care of her for life,, just told wife,,looks like it is the time. I wont post pics of lil bit at 40 pounds,, just look at her at 80 pounds and enjoy. I am kind of
in middle of all, I worked so long in handicapped field. Went to way too many funerals.
