Trump Won, Mission Accomplished

Trump won by losing. He’s successfully been able to keep his taxes secret through two election cycles.

I disagree that it wouldn’t have an effect before the election. Unlike other revelations (i.e. bountygate), Trump isn’t a billionaire which is counter to one of the main reasons his base supports him. Needless to say, the disclosure would have much more dirt that just his net worth.

Our only hope is that Cy Vance moves quickly (and SCOTUS cooperates) to get info out before the election. Will Cy Vance be willing to influence an election outcome? Who knows.

The whole situation stinks, an amazing level of corruption that I never thought I would see in my country.

forensic accountants. Deutsche Bank is cooperating.

I don't know a single person who believed we'd see his taxes before the election. I heard that all day yesterday on the MSM and I think it's a red herring to detract from the significance of the decisions.

Trump's truculence, defensiveness, fear and anxiety tell me he didn't view yesterday as a victory.

"an amazing level of corruption that I never thought I would see in my country"

I'm a relatively reasonable person... I read, am curious, never dabbled in conspiracy theories, I pay attention and try to be rational... I always observed and understood the fringes of society, did what I could to support good and keep myself educated.... but now

I have become extremely concerned (worried, angry, anxious, etc...) about what is going on and SO MANY people (republicans) willing to be silent, abet, support, etc.... the obviously corrupt, undemocratic, vile behavior and actions

I have not wanted to over react but we are living a real dangerous time

I keep wondering why the average American isn't more outraged and where the threshold is. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, bountygate, attacks on the environment, cost of college, pandemic response, police brutality, the list goes on and on. I find it really hard to understand.

Trump is going to lose big time in November. After that prosecutors will have access to all if private citizen trump's tax returns and it will all be used against him in court. That is if interim president pence doesn't pardon him for all crimes past and present.

late in the term anyway? Cy Vance is another matter though. If he gets the goods and Trump is no longer president, there ought to be a perp walk. I don't see how "Individual 2" goes to jail while "Individual 1" gets off completely unscathed.

Trump's base would not care if they found out he was not a billionaire. They think that he is a successful business owner regardless of the readily available information that he bankrupted several companies and has been drowning in debt since the 80's.

They will dismiss the information as "fake news" or some conspiracy to hurt Trump.

His base is not going anywhere. The people who voted for him in 16 and regret it, have already left.

There aren't any people hanging around that are going to say, "I can take the lying, the cheating, the racism, sexism, and xenophobia, but he's only worth 10 million dollars ?!?, I'm outta here!!"

Trump's base supports him because he talks tough and tries to hurt the people that they hate (Black people, LGBT people, Brown immigrants, non-Christians, and progressives). They don't care who he is, just what he promises to do.

The rich and powerful have always had a different tier of "justice" in this country.

Yesterday on a thread about Herman Cain, I asked a question that I kind of knew the answer to just because I wanted to write "Aww Shucky Ducky!"

I do understand your point. I think, to Trump, it is a victory because it delays the release of his tax returns. Anything, even if it is a Pyrrhic victory, is a win for Trump in his mind.

There is no magic bullet that will take Trump down (except maybe if he gets COVID-19). He will be taken down by an accumulation of problems and with effort to get out the vote.

The good thing about this issue is that it sets precedent that the office of the President is not above the law.
