Do you think think there will be riots in trumpland when they cancel NCAA Football & NFL?

If you think the trump-humpers are mad right now, imagine how pissed they're going to be here shortly when they find out that NCAA Football is cancelled and then right behind that the NFL will probably close. They're going to be having breakdowns in Walmart and in Applebees on an epic level.

Many NCAA Divisions have already cancelled non-conference games and are struggling with limiting crowds to 25% or less, and its apparent to many athletic directors that there will be no college football. Right after that I suspect the NFL will shutter for the season as well.

I know a lot of people here don't give a flip about sports and that's cool, but just know that when you hear that all sports are gone for the year, t-humpers are going to lose it.

Be safe out there.

But I won’t actually argue that point. Except for maybe a few departments like marine biology and music. In general, both schools are better now than they were 30+years ago when I was there.

But at least I didn’t have to go to school in Gainesville!

To tell you the truth, my daughter just graduated from high school and we were in the unenviable position of trying to convince her it was a great place to go. Being an in state student, it was really the best value for her. But alas, I was unconvincing and she decided to spend my money elsewhere. She starts at Ohio State next month.

So truce. We play for the same team as far as politics go. That is all that matters to me now.

But I must admit the Florida is an exceptional institution of higher leaning. Second best in the conference behind Vanderbilt.

And also perhaps the best value in the country for what they offer.

My godson is a senior in HS doing dual enrollment. He will have an associate degree when he graduates HS and plans on making an engineer. I really hope he gets accepted to Florida. Besides his academics he will be an Eagle Scout.

Miami is actually renowned in several areas, as the Miami alum pointed out.

The biggest burden for schools like Florida and the UK, being public Universities (Miami is private), is republican politicians over the last few decades constantly cutting funding.

One risk that your godson runs, being a top student in high school, is not realizing that a true college pace is daunting fast and demanding. Many top students overload themselves with classes as entering first years, I advise kids to take the minimum course load to qualify as fully enrolled during their first session (either semester or trimester), that allows them to gain a feel for college life without a brutal course load while trying to do that. No one in college do your wash for you, or tell you when to eat or go to class, or when to study. A person has to give themselves a chance to experiment with best methods, that is difficult with a big class load. Also, the professors in advanced classes that top students take can be quirky, they may have students buy books and pamphlets, but test exclusively from their class notes, so a student has to read the printed material AND understand the gist of class notes. I even had a professor that had a thing about calculators, it was either solve difficult calculations on a slide rule or longhand, to the exact significant digits he called for - so a person had to calculate each transition number exactly correctly. My view on calculators is that if a person doesn’t know how to do the calculation, a calculator is useless. Another issue is some college professors are just horrible at teaching undeveloped minds, they don’t know how to present complex material in a way that students can visualize.

He was voted by his peers to lead their study group and he is a pretty serious kid. He loves math.

I guess when in dual enrollment the kids can pick the courses of study they want and he picked tough ones suited to his desires.

I also have to add his parents are conservative, his mother being a real trump fan. I think his dad will vote for Biden but keeps his mouth closed at home. They’ve been friends for 25 years and politics are not talk when all 4 of us are together. Love them and the kids too much to cut them out of my life.

Anyway, my point is that my godson is shaping up to be a liberal democrat! To his mothers consternation. She tries but he is really an independent thinker. Like to think I had something to do with that.

Great kid. As is his older brother who is also a godson although academics aren’t his thing. He will end up working with his hands.

Have a good weekend.

They'll bitch and moan and sports-talk radio should be hilarious to listen to.

In the end, what are they going to do? Riot over football? What are we? Europeans? (Just kidding.)

We can't have mass assemblies again until a reliable and effective vaccine is developed, 350 million doses are manufactured and Americans get their shots. Of course, some fools will refuse to be vaccinated. Oh, well, that's their problem. Until then, putting lots of people together will nearly always result in transmissions of the virus. We've already seen it happen.

I strongly believe that we're no where near the end of this global health crisis and due to Trump's complete failure to lead, we are going to have severe problems in all parts of our society for at least 1 to 2 years, probably longer.

If one player on the offensive or defensive line has it, and doesn’t know it, the offense and defense have a good chance of getting it. Offensive line play is up close, face to face, with lots of heavy breathing. If one guy has it, and then transmits it to the guy across from him, they both go back to their respective huddles. It will take a couple of weeks to spread, but it will be catastrophic.

I want to think that healthy athletes might be able to work through this--but what about the 350 pound linemen and the plus 60 Coaching Staffs and personnel? To me its a morality issue-I can't support playing under these conditions if it results in death and long term disability. So I've basically dropped-out following my teams for 5 months. I have never been on a cruise in my entire life, nor have I ever contemplated going on a cruise, therefore my knowledge of cruises and how the pandemic is affecting them is limited to what I see on the news. As far as 247Sports goes, I receive player and staff interviews, stats, profiles, and updates. I have never engaged in their discussion forums. I pretty much limit my engagement to Hawgs Illustrated, hogville, and rivals. I know who is a Trumper on these boards , and there is usually a separate political forum which I do not engage in, but as far as sports are concerned, the worst I've heard from a person who I know is a Trumper is, " I'm really pissed off about not having a season, but, what are you gonna do?" Or some variation thereof . Pretty much the same sentiment the left leaners on the board have. Anyone who wants to jump on the rebel flag idiots, have at it with my blessing.
