Democratic Rep. Elissa Slotkin (Mich.), a first-term member who represents a district President Trump won by roughly 7 points in 2016, said that polls showing the president trailing former Vice President Joe Biden are inaccurate.
I dont believe it, Slotkin told Politico Magazine when asked about recent polls showing Biden performing well in key swing states, such as Michigan. FiveThirtyEight currently has Biden nearly 10 points ahead of Trump in Slotkins state of Michigan.
The former CIA analyst said there are too many variables at play for a poll to accurately reflect what will happen in November.
Listen, if anyone tells me they can accurately predict what major events are coming in the remainder of 2020, Ill give them a thousand dollars, Slotkin said. I mean, this has been the year of black swans.
I dont for one minute think this [presidential] race is safe in anyones column. Ive been literally begging people to ignore those polls. They are a snapshot in time. And if 2020 has taught us anything, its that we have no idea whats coming next.
Slotkin, who was part of a wave of Democrats who won races in 2018, is considered one of the more vulnerable Democrats facing reelection this November. She was one of several swing district Democrats to face scrutiny from Republicans in her district over the House's impeachment vote.

(1,351 posts)Of neurotic handwringing. Im tired of only thinking of worst case scenarios. With everything else going on: COVID, massive job loss, loss of life...Im going to have to take the road of hope on this one (2020 election). Hope doesnt mean naivety. You can be hopeful and work your ass off to get Biden elected at the same time. Or you can stay in a state of constant flight or fight which drains your energy.
Im going with hope on this one. I need the positive energy so I can do all I can to help Biden win.

(9,600 posts)The Democratic Party needs to check all of the voter registration rolls and make sure their voters are actually legally registered on them, then make sure registered Democratic voters know when, where, and how to vote.

(16,616 posts)It's like members of the Lincoln Project said on Thursday: so long as Trump is in office we can't for one second let down our guard. Some people work harder if they believe they're behind; others work harder if they believe they're ahead. Believe what you need to believe in order to continue to function at the highest level possible in an atmosphere of constant stress and anxiety. Either way, just work hard and vote.
Stay on the Republicans. Make them as stressed-out as we are.
