(17,003 posts)range even though most LEOs will never draw their weapon? How many hours do they spend practicing deescalation techniques that they will need to use on a daily basis? Listen to the audio of Capt Sully landing his plane. No stress because he practiced that over and over and over so when it happened he was ready.

(10,136 posts)Maybe a week at the academy, 1-2 days a year for annual qualifications.
Departments do not want to spend the money.
Only a small percentage of cops will spend their own time and money on gun training and practice.
Most likely any deescalation training gets noticeably less training time, if any.

This was not a typical scenario.
These LEOs were not raging and were using their heads instead of their guns.
