Is Georgia reaching a tipping point

emocrats’ hopes of capturing statewide office in Georgia may have been dashed in 2018, but this year the party appears on the cusp of a breakthrough.

The state’s two Republican senators are facing increasingly competitive reelection bids, and President Trump’s poll numbers are suffering there as he scrambles to get a handle on the coronavirus pandemic and respond to ongoing civil unrest over racial injustice and police brutality.

Democrats, meanwhile, say that changing demographics in Georgia have made the state ripe for political change. Some 322,000 new voters joined the state’s rolls last year, including many young voters and people of color. And Georgia’s June 9 primaries saw record-setting Democratic turnout, drawing nearly twice as many voters as the 2018 gubernatorial nominating contest between Stacey Abrams and Stacey Evans.

“Georgia is the linchpin, the most competitive state, the top battleground,” Jon Ossoff, who’s running to unseat Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.), said in an interview with The Hill on Thursday.

My mind keeps drifting to holes in my logic. Is this too good to be true? What angle could reverse the path of the election?

I see no medical miracles. Trump will of course announce an instant vaccine on October 20th. Trump's attacks on Biden focus on age, not exactly a Trump strong point when you consider physical condition. Will the Culture War angle play out for Trump? Informed suburban voters have as much fear of the militarized right as the radical left, so I think this is a wash. Look for Trump to dog whistle his way with GOP cliches all the way to the election. Roger Stone is loose, and probably advising Nixon tactics this weekend in Trump's ear.

I hope some experienced, cynical, politically aware Machiavellian advisor has Biden's back. We need to plan for every contingency.
