'Dentist Karen' Threatens to Sue Dental Office for Being Asked to Wear Face Mask, Take Temperature

Every week, there seems to be another Karen going berserk on matters often pertaining to race or the wearing of masks. On Thursday, footage emerged of a woman in a dentist’s office wielding threats after being asked to wear a face-covering in the waiting room.

In the viral TikTok video, the white woman threatens to sue a dental office after an employee requests that she wears a mask and get her temperature checked. Earning the name “Dentist Karen,” by people online, the woman tells the office staff, “You’re going to work on my teeth, not my nose. I don’t wear masks getting my teeth cleaned.”

?s=20

When the worker explains that patients in the waiting room are required to wear a mask to help stop the transmission of COVID-19, the woman asks if she can use her hand to cover her mouth, to which the worker says no. Then, when staff ask if they can take the woman’s temperature, she threatens to sue for harassment.

“You can’t take my temperature that’s against the law!” the woman shouted back. “I have the right to sue you for harassing me!” She added that she spoke with her attorney before arriving at the office, who told her that it isn’t legal for a dentist to take her temperature because they’re not MDs.

So many people don't realize it's satire because part of her schtick is to act so naive and innocent, but that's what makes it funny. Not as good as the one about her "husband", but still pretty humerous.

Have you tried one of those external pain formulas like IcyHot or Aspercream with Lidocaine in it? It's mostly for muscle and arthritic pain, but it really helps to numb the area and releive pain, although temporarily. If you get Instacart, they deliver from local pharmacies and markets. That, and ice, should help you through until it heals on it's own.

Anyway, take care and feel better soon!

Not only for refusing to follow their office policy, but anyone who has threatens legal action should automatically be put on their banned, do not serve list and the office staff should refer her to the practice's legal counsel.

My insane niece once got my Dad thrown out of a nursing facility when she began talking about suing them. No matter that she had no standing to sue on Dad's behalf or anything to sue about, but just that threat from a family member had them ask him to leave within twenty four hours. Any attempt to discuss the matter with the home's administration was met with referrals to their attorney. I couldn't blame the nursing home - they did not want or need the harassment. And the niece had already caused a number of scenes while Dad was there , so I suspect they were relieved to have a way to get rid of her.

they require all passengers to wear masks and won't let them on an airplane without one. If a passenger takes off a mask in flight (except for eating or drinking) and refuses to put it back on they will be banned from future Delta flights. People need to understand that a private business can require masks (or pants, for that matter) on their premises, period. The customer has the choice of wearing the mask or leaving, but their rights are not being infringed in the slightest

That is a HIPAA violation unless the woman signed a waiver with the dentist office allowing the staff to discuss her treatments and medical conditions. This should have occurred behind closed doors.

Ordinary people in a waiting room are not subject to HIPAA regulations. A person screaming about her own medical treatment in a public space is not a HIPAA violation.

Many people really don't understand HIPAA.

I couldn't understand everything that was being said, so maybe you could provide a transcript of the parts where she was actually talking to the woman about her treatment.

Everything that I could hear about the treatment came from the aggrieved woman herself.

The staff repeat their requirements. The woman herself yelled that she needed her teeth cleaned. The staff said nothing about her treatment, or her health.

It's not a HIPAA violation to state that all patients have to wear masks and have their temperatures taken.

I doubt it's a HIPAA violation for a person in a waiting room to record another person yelling at the receptionist at a dentist's office. There's no indication that anyone in the dental office made the recording or released it.
