McConnell has warned Trump that they will abandon him if he doesn't turn things around by Labor Day

This isn't a very new story. A few weeks ago there was an article on Vanity Fair that McConnell had warned Trump that if he can't turn things around by Labor Day that the Republicans are going to basically cut off Trump and leave him to his fate, in order to try to save the senate. Obviously in the time Trump's position has become worse, not better so it isn't looking good. However, to put into prospective how little time Trump has, if McConnell's ultimatum is true, we are only 6 weeks away from the point of no return between Trump and the Republicans. Do you know what happened 6 weeks ago already?

The time between that crime against humanity and today is how much time Trump has left to turn things around. That not a lot....

Edit: Here the article BTW

The way I see it is this: They have three types of possible republican voters: 1) The "independents" that from election to election waffle between republicans/democrats/not voting 2) the "moderate" republicans, who are reliable republican voters, but not die-hard trumpists, and 3) the cult members.

The chasm between the party and the "independents" is insurmountable without fully repudiating trump, which would drive off the cultists, and put trump into scorched earth mode, where he starts viciously attacking those who have betrayed him. They'd keep the "moderates", but there aren't really that many of them, and maybe win back some "independents"

If they just "distance themselves" from trump, I don't think that pleases anyone other than the "moderates" who can pretend that it's business as usual. Anything other than abject subservience is interpreted by trump as betrayal, so I think this still puts him into scorched earth mode, and it's not going to be enough to win back enough of the "independents"

If they ride or die with trump, they keep the cultists, lose the independents, and the "moderate" republicans slowly peel off as the party sinks below the moral event horizon for more and more of them.

I wonder if those here saying that the Republicans will never abandon Trump if they maybe aren't a bit younger and therefore haven't seen the Republicans throw formerly very powerful members of their party to the wolves? I've seen it happen plenty of times. Trump is nothing special to them.

Moscow Mitch et al are covered in Trumpstain and they think they can get it off with a mere 8 weeks to go.

Shows you how they estimate the intelligence of their supporters. But even for their low IQ supporters many will dump them for betraying Trump and others will abandon them for waffling. Their voter base will consist of anti-dems with little incentive to vote.

will turn on them and take them all down with him. Trump has no loyalty to the Republican party. It shouldn't surprise anyone if Trump devotes the rest of the Fall campaign urging his followers to vote against McConnell, Graham, Tillis, Gardner, Collins and the rest.

you're OK with the treason, the sucking up to murderous dictators, ignoring Russia targeting our troops with bounties, the caging of children, and a hell of lot of other heinous crap he's done, but only when it affects your political futures do you turn on him?

By the way, we gave you the opportunity to remove him a while ago, as you'll recall. You chose to whitewash the Senate vote without calling a single witness. When you get your asses kicked in November, it will be your own fault.
