In a statement Saturday, a White House official told CNN that "several White House officials are concerned about the number of times Dr. Fauci has been wrong on things." The official went on to provide a lengthy list of examples, citing Fauci's comments early in the pandemic and linking to past interviews.
These bullet points, which resembled opposition research on a political opponent, included Fauci downplaying the virus early on and a quote from March when Fauci said,
"People should not be walking around with masks," among other comments.
The move by the White House comes as President Donald Trump and Fauci are not speaking. The tension between the two men has grown publicly as the two have responded to one another through interviews and statements.

(21,560 posts)he can either bite his tongue and keep trying to hold some influence over what is going on, or speak the absolute truth of the situation and get fired, thus losing any power he had. i feel like he is hopeful he can exert enough influence to save SOME loves even if he is muzzled from saying what is really needed to save as many lives as realistically possible.

(86,536 posts)If it came from him, listen up, he's the expert. He has been trying to inform us even while gagged. He'll be around with an outlet to inform us because he is dedicated to helping with this virus. It's what his life career is about. -45 can't take that away, all he can do is shift the location Fauci's words are coming from.

(43,049 posts)seem to be numbered on the White House Task Force. This is the way Trump operates, and it makes no difference if it is insane.
In a normal world, Fauci would be running the show, but here his job is simply to make Trump look good.
November can't get here fast enough.

(86,536 posts)He can't fire him and can only remove him from the TF, but he'll shit-talk him until one of them goes away.
Everyone knows Dr. Fauci is the one to listen to so most will seek him out. He can hold his own press conferences if he's not on the TF. As Dir. of the institute, he does hold a community obligation given his expertise, which he would be doing more about if he were not tied to the WH.

'One senior administration official told CNN that some officials within the White House do not trust Fauci. According to the source, those officials think Fauci doesn't have the best interest of the President, pointing to interviews where he openly disagrees with what Trump has said.
Other administration officials have told CNN that while they have disagreements with Fauci's methods, they don't doubt his motives, and that his only concern was public health.'

(10,009 posts)Take the original no mask comment. That was at a time when PPE was scarce and States with hotspots were scrambling for supplies, even being forced to bid against each other because of Kushner's desire to see profits made by middlemen and Blue states suffer. Add to that, the public already hoarding toilet paper, isopropyl alcohol and disinfecting wipes, bleach, etc.
Masks would have limited the spread, but there were not enough to go around with a world wide shortage, so social distancing was emphasized.
Take the predictions of where cases might be at particular moments in time. Those were predictions based upon best and worst case scenarios.
Etc.
It will be hard to discredit Fauci, and records will exist of what was discussed at task force meetings and how the information was approved to be massaged for public dispersal...Trump was banking on the virus to pass and insisted nothing be said to instill panic and to disrupt Trump's ginning of the stock market.
