Just spoke to another Trumphumper who won't be voting in November

Here's another anecdotal story of a formerly rabid trump supporter who's planning to stay home this voting cycle.

The guy, whose actual name is White, is childhood friend of my spouse. (They grew up in an entirely white, conservative, private community in the northeast. My spouse is one of the few liberals from that area.) In 2016, Mr. White was completely over-the-the top about trump. Literally every social media exchange from him ended with "Trump 2016!". Over the past 4 years, this public cheerleading has steadily ratcheted down.

Yesterday the two old friends spoke on the phone for over an hour. White's words were heartening: "Trump is a liar, everybody knows it", he said. He lamented that "all politicians are the same", and that he'd hoped that as an "outsider", trump would be different.

Now, stopping short of calling trump out for being the corrupt monster that he is, it was clear that he's disappointed in his former champion's performance. When asked how he'd vote in November, he replied "I guess I'll probably just skip the elections this time".

Every little bit helps!

4. I've Talked To MANY People.........

........who either didn't vote at all in 2016 (my mom, of all people, is one of these) because they didn't like either candidate (say what you will about Hillary, but she had a constant propaganda campaign waged against her since 1991, and it did have an effect), or voted for Trump in 2016 because they wanted to "go a different direction" or "try something different" only to see that they screwed up, and are now vowing that after the debacle that has been the last 4 years, they're enthusiastically voting Democrat.

I think non-voters and disappointed Trump voters will make up a healthy percentage swing from Trump to Biden this time around. And ANY swing in the voting populace is probably deadly for a guy who "won" by the slimmest of margins the last time. Even if those people comprise only 5% of the population, a 5% swing could take us into landslide territory.

5. Not voting is best for them

That way, their votes for the morons down ticket won't be there, either.

In fact, I rather suspect that's exactly why a lot of Republicans will be hanging out on the couch in November, maybe hooking up and old VHS player and watching some 15 year old games they've kind of forgotten since there won't be much new out there to watch. Too many old reliable down ticket morons have supported Dumdum for far too long.

8. "he's disappointed in his former champion's performance."

Umhm. Trump the strongman is turning out to be a loser. Followers of authoritarian leaders will support them to the end -- the end of their belief that they'll smash their enemies and lead them to victory.

Wish he said he woke in the night ashamed of supporting their massive cruelty and betrayal. Right now all the powers ranged against us, foreign and domestic, are plotting to get him to the polls.

Early voting starts in just 6 weeks!

9. This is great news! By November a lot more will do the same

We keep forgetting that back in 2016 a lot of last-minute uncommitted voters went eeny meeny miney moe and voted for Chump with their eyes closed. Their eyes aren't closed any more, and those voters never drank the Kool-Ade. They can see what a disaster Chump is, and they'll never be fooled again. At least some of those voters will stay home, the rest will go to the polls and vote Chump out.

Maybe they'll never join our Party, and that's OK. We still need their help to get rid of OrangeAnus.

10. I guess "they're all the same" cynicism is usually the most transformation...

...you can hope for, at least in the short term.

My very right-wing fundie sister surprised me by finally saying she'd had enough of Trump. Of all the things that could have opened her eyes up, it was apparently the way Trump was cheering on the anti-shutdown protesters.

I wouldn't be surprised if her granddaughter (my great niece) had something to do with that -- she's a five-year old who, just in the past few weeks, has been declared free from cancer ( ) after an awful year-long struggle with Stage 4 cancer. I'll bet my sister was worried about her granddaughter getting infected while she was so weak and struggling with chemo.

Although my sister certainly hadn't been loudly crowing about Trump all that much recently, just a few weeks before she told me she'd given up on Trump, in one of the very few political arguments I've let myself get into with her, she was still going out of her way to defend even the idiocy of Trump's bleach injection comments.

Now she's saying she'll vote independent, and went into "a pox on both of their houses" mode about Democrats and Republicans. I behaved myself, graciously accepted what she was saying, didn't gloat or do any I-told-ya-sos, figured I'd count one less vote in Ohio for Trump as blessing enough for now, and not push my luck.

11. Congratulations on your grand-nieces recovery, Silent!

And agree about people like your sis. Sometimes "one less avid trump supporter" is the best we can hope for. It's not hyperbolic to say our entire republic is on the line.

If that's for real I can't believe I've never seen it or heard of it before. Very enjoyable to watch. Wish it would happen more often. Like, very often. Every damn time he appears in public would be great.

16. I think a lot of us are having this experience.

Had a mild case a month or so ago with my nephew on Facebook. He had passed along some "body language expert" who claimed he could tell Biden was lying about Tara Reade in his interview on Morning Joe. We exchanged a couple of comments back and forth. Gave him the info on all the different problems with Reade's story, and told him when the complaints reached 20 to wake me up. Then he commented that Trump was a liar and terrible at the job. This is a young man who was raised on Fox News. I left it at that this was a binary choice...Biden or Trump, and we didn't have the luxury of people's "principles" this time around. You either voted to maintain a democracy or vote for authoritarianism. He never came back with a comment. I just think a lot of people who combined hating Hillary with deciding to roll the dice have come to the realization that Trump is a mess who is in way over his head.

My step dad is another. He is so frustrated with 45 and DeVos CO’s response to Covid and schools that he is not going to vote.
