Anomalies of COVID through a lens of zinc depletion

Last edited Mon Jul 13, 2020, 03:05 PM - Edit history (5)

From an experience I had a few years ago with a few proliferating stubborn warts on the bottom of my foot, I stumbled across some research on the role of zinc in fighting certain viruses. For five months I had suffered, whether missing, or suffering on, my daily long walks to and from train stations. The recommendation of the doctor wasn’t clearing it up. But after 7 days of rubbing a paste composed of a crushed up zinc tablet on my foot, it was half gone, and all better in 2 weeks.

The weirdness of COVID is that it hits some people so hard and seems to do nothing to others. I ask myself is there a correlation with people who have a depletion of zinc and people hit by COVID very hard?

Young people Vs Old people? Yes.
People NOT on ACE inhibitors Vs those who are? Yes.
Marathon runners — while super fit, some were hit surprisingly hard. Search for marathon runner and coronavirus and you’ll find quite a few. After the first such cases reported, I assumed it was the heavy breathing around others in the race. But don’t their marathons also deplete them of zinc? Perhaps.
Smokers Vs non-smokers? Probably. Believe it or not, smokers are much less likely to get COVID or to end up hospitalized for COVID. And smoking has actually been associated with higher levels of serum zinc (in some but not all studies).

This article in the Guardian describes how there are “large numbers of very big fused cells” in the lungs of people who have had COVID.

“What you find in the lungs of people who have stayed with the disease for more than a month before dying is something completely different from normal pneumonia, influenza or the Sars virus,” he said. “You see massive thrombosis. There is a complete disruption of the lung architecture – in some lights you can’t even distinguish that it used to be a lung.

“There are large numbers of very big fused cells which are virus positive with as many as 10, 15 nuclei,” he said. “I am convinced this explains the unique pathology of Covid-19. This is not a disease caused by a virus which kills cells, which had profound implications for therapy.”

Does zinc have an affect on cell division? Yes. Zinc depletion doubled the amount of DNA per cell in this [link: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/803510/ |NIH study] as it interferes with cell division. “Cell division ceases on depletion of zinc from the medium. There are 20-fold less cells in (Zn minus) medium than in control cultures.”

I’m not recommending anything here except to eat a healthy balanced diet. And whatever you do, don’t take an excess of any mineral that dislodges other essential minerals (without specific doctor’s advice), because upsetting the delicate balance of calcium, zinc, and potassium can affect basic cell processes, brain chemistry, and electrical signals in the heart.

I do wish modern medicine had more thoroughly studied — and had better measurements of — the levels of minerals in the body. I do wish the serum levels of all patients were tested and analyzed with big data and AI, to zero in on patterns of diseases.

Just food for thought.

3. I have gotten rid of warts by covering them with duct tape for about a week

I know that has nothing to do with your main point but thought you might want to do that if you have the problem again.

As for the zinc - the common cold virus is a corona virus also which supposedly zinc also can relieve the symptoms of. Be worth a try.

a bandaid, daily for 2 weeks. Also for getting rid of toenail fungus, apply VVR to toenail daily for 2 weeks. Must I advise that you do not ingest VVR. OK, do NOT ingest VVR.

Thanks for posting, lost - HEY, if nothing else, zinc sure did a job on your dadgum foot warts, eh?? (it’s sooooo great when a suggested treatment actually WORKS, ain’t it??!)

10, 15 nuclei"?

Are these cells that fused after attempting and failing to divide prior to thrombosis? Or was the cell division interrupted by the thrombosis or a massive thrombotic event (maybe starved of oxygen and nutrients--like zinc)?

sorry, I just don't understand.

18. Basic process of cell replication failed at cell division in absence of zinc

A certain step required zinc. Nuclei multiplied, but next step of division failed.

She says the zinc helps to “deconstruct” the virus if you were ever to get it.

There is evidence that zinc prevents virus replication. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2973827/

I am taking Quercetin, Zinc, Vitamin D and N Acetyl Cystine daily. I take a B complex weekly. No vitamin C now with all the fresh fruit and vegetables, but I add C in the winter. I may add K.
