Last week, there was a call to boycott Goya products after the company's CEO Robert Unanue praised President Donald Trump during a White House press conference. Celebrities and politicians alike, including Chrissy Teigen and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, said they'd no longer be buying from the brand. Now chef José Andrés is speaking out about the brand.
In a Rose Garden ceremony that took place on July 9, Goya CEO Unanue said "We're all truly blessed to have have a leader like President Trump who is a builder. We have an incredible builder, and we pray. We pray for our leadership, our president."
Chef José Andrés has been quick to step up and provide for communities in need through his work with World Central Kitchen, especially during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. He took to Twitter to respond to the Goya controversy.

(1,789 posts)When he tries to reach out in his ham handed way, his only move is to bring in the CEO of a company his target group might like. Not just any CEO, they have to be pre-screened down to the ones who will blow smoke up his ass.

(63,221 posts)There are plenty of other decent brands on the market that do not support Trump. The decision to make a change is not that difficult. I am done with Trump ass-kissers.

(2,809 posts)I checked, I have some Juanita's and some El Mexicano brand canned goods. They don't have any connection I could find on their sites, california based companies both, it appears.
Honestly, I don't want to visit their site. I have enough mistaken algorithms I have to keep knocking down from oppo research, lately I even get trash emails from the damn Donald himself, probably just because he's every damn where, I seldom type that idiots name without making it clear what a clown he is.... still...

(2,809 posts)I tend to avoid those with low scores on the Human Rights Campaign website corporate equality guide. I know to avoid the Koch Brother's GP paper products, known Trump Humpers. I steer clear of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Home Depot, LL bean, Urban Outfitters, Sketchers shoes, Tractor Supply, Travel Centers of America, Bed, Bath and Beyond Valero fuel stations. All of the above score a big fat ZERO on HRC website, so pretty good bet they are fully MAGAt's. I steer clear of O-reilly Auto parts, although Auto Zone doesn't fare much better. Can't find an auto parts house that scores well. I couldn't find Goya on their list, but I'll bet after media exposure they'll be rated next year.
Working in the hospital in the pandemic, I find myself with far less "me" time than usual. I'm off this week on mostly a business but also rest-oriented vacation time.
I've never found a concise shopping guide that rates according to political donations and stances specifically. I'm sure there are some companies that are all for LGBT rights and equality, and still are MAGA's, but it seems practically a contradiction in terms.
