opened after COVID is over. Kind of like a time capsule.

I did mine last night - small refunds both state and federal so I'm happy but it won't kill me if they are slow.

I filed our state taxes back in March and long since banked that refund. I’ll be shifting the money over soon so I can write our check to Uncle Sam.

I also need to mail off our kids’ taxes. We worked on them together over vacation.

But since I have to pay, I’m putting them in the mail tomorrow. You have to pay by July 15th regardless of extensions. Doesn’t make sense but whatever.

I'll e-file and e-pay this afternoon. I always owe the IRS money when I file.

I was so scared because I knew I was going to owe money, but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be!

And presumably they will file electronically.

Also I sent in 1st and 2nd quarter estimated taxes last week.

to be mailed off in early March. We had a refund coming — first time in many years. It took until early July to get our refund, by the way. No reason given for the delay. We were just about to contact the IRS to see what was the hold up when the check materialized in our mail box. Maybe that was the problem.....having a paper check printed and mailed? We will make sure they have direct deposit info next time, although we already have it for social security.

groups, environmental groups, companies owned by Democrats, etc., got money too.

Plus, they have to pay the money back unless they kept employees on. So, I'm OK with it.

It's very easy to get an extension to file or an extension on paying the taxes for those who don't have the money.

Maybe the IRS will be quick to waive the penalty for good cause but it’s a risk. File an extension and send in what you will likely owe. Or guess what your figures are, file a return based on that, then amend the return when you have final figures. The late filing penalty is 5% of unpaid tax per month, or part of month, maximum 25%. If you extend but don’t pay they will likely retroactively cancel your no money extension.
