Another mask confrontation related death in Michigan

UPDATE: Suspect killed in deputy-involved shooting after mask fight was an MDOT employee

DELTA TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WILX) - One man has died following an incident that began at a Quality Dairy located at 7120 Lansing Road in Dimondale around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Michigan State Police said a masked man from Lansing, 77, and an unmasked man from Grand Ledge, Sean Ruis, 43, got into an altercation regarding wearing masks.

Police said the customer, Ruis, who was not wearing a mask was refused service by the store.

MSP said Ruis pulled out a knife and stabbed the 77-year-old Lansing man and then fled the scene from in a car.

Police said a deputy with the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department located the suspect vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Jerryson Drive in Delta Township around 7:13 a.m.

MSP said Ruis immediately exited the vehicle and walked toward the deputy with a knife “in hand to attack the deputy.”

Police said the deputy, a 22-year veteran, attempted to increase distance by backing up and “subsequently shot and injured” Ruis who was taken to the hospital and died during surgery.

MSP said the deputy wasn’t injured.

Guy stabbed someone.
Then considered attacking a cop? An guy with a gun, and he attacked with a knife?
I'm guessing Ruiz had some psychological issues.

The stabbing victim, the 77-year-old man, was also taken to a local hospital for his injuries and police say he is alive, however, Quality Dairy CEO Ken Martin told News 10 in a phone interview that he is in critical condition.

Police were also at the Quality Dairy, where the store was blocked off with police tape Tuesday.

Sad.

There are a lot of crazies in that part of the state, this is not part of Lansing, Dimondale is pretty rural/trailer parkish.

While cops are absolutely out of control, it doesn't work that way when you've already committed attempted murder and are ready to do it again. Police don't want to get stabbed any more than you or I do.

The guy who died after stabbing a 77 year old over a mask can burn in fucking hell.

But from what I've read, they're trained to shoot at the chest as it's the easiest to hit.

Cops lives are simply worth more than regular peoples, so ... you make them afraid they are going to be hurt, they get to kill you dead.

That's the system.

If they're shooting you, they have decided it's okay if you die.

I don't buy this explanation.

What we really need for the cops is a weapon that will stop someone from approaching them as effectively as a gun will ... without killing them. I truly believe such a weapon/defense system is possible with today's technology.

I don't have the range time some people have. I bow to expertise.

That being said, yes, if they have to use deadly force, it stands to reason that it is ok if the person dies. Donut just addresses the derp of 'why didn't they just shoot em in the leg?' As if a leg shot was just a step above an asp strike.

Just like he tackles the 'they didn't hafta shoot him so much' tripe in another vid...

They have less than lethal at their disposal, tasers, beanbags, etc, but that typically requires more than one officer to be on scene. Something that doesn't apply in this case. I guess she could have pulled a Sgt. Miller, and just hid in her car.

Police have a problem with murdering unarmed men of color. No one expects the police not to shoot someone who just stabbed an old man and is now advancing on an officer.

He came at her. He ignored her command to drop the weapon (2 knives and a screwdriver). He wasn't about to deescalate. He didn't give her time to get a taser.
