To those who are even considering sending their children to school this year:

I offer this:

A reading from the Second Book of Samuel (Jackson)

“Knowest thou, for it is written in stone,
when plague stalks the land, stay the fuck home.”

Can I get an “Amen?”

Why?

They learn better in person and this virus is not going away. They will get a better education face to face, especially with developing social skills and interacting with other kids. There is so substitute for human contact, especially at a young age.

I have little confidence that a vaccine is even possible, let alone having one available and effective in the next year. Covid is not going to burn out, it has spread too widely. There are concerns that post infection immunity may be short lived, making herd immunity the old fashioned way also dubious.

We can't stay at home forever, we need to adapt and live again while taking all reasonable precautions. In other words we need to find a balance between caution and convenience.

That being said, mine will have their masks and will be in very deep trouble if they are not wearing them at all possible times. Let that be a lesson to all the damn Trumpers too, if a kindergartner can wear it, why can't mister tough guy?
