(15,086 posts)They are sweet and friendly until they are not. They know patterns and they know when their person is threatened.
I have had four GSDs in my family. Do not mess with them.

(16,646 posts)The dog might be closer to the camera than the couple. It can affect apparent sizes, especially if a zoom lens was used.

(9,247 posts)The Biden's are almost background for Major, who happens to be gorgeous!
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,001 posts)Bricks near the camera much larger than bricks only a few bricks away.
Head of dog is forward of its shoulders and is therefore much larger.
You put the camera close to the people and dog and then use a wide angle lens on it to gather in the whole scene.
liberalla
(9,247 posts)(though I did notice the bricks)
It appears Joe's foot is resting on the hip or haunch of the dog...
rickford66
(5,523 posts)Maybe a 135 mm tele ?
Bernardo de La Paz
(49,001 posts)Perspective is controlled by distance. The camera is closer to the dog than to Biden, a lot closer, like say 0.7 m versus 1.7 meter (like 2 ft vs 5 ft).
If it were a telephoto lens, then the camera would be a lot farther away and the dog and Biden would have a normal size relationship to each other because the distance to the dog would be nearly the same proportionally as the distance to Biden, like say 7 m vs 8 m (like 21 ft vs 24 ft).
In both examples, the dog is the same distance from Biden, like say 1 m (3 ft). But the camera would be a different distance.
It is definitely a strong wide angle lens. Some smart phones have angles that wide, I think. Smart phones have wider angles than "normal", the better to fit people in for selfies.

(7,947 posts)along with a reminder that Trump supposedly promised Barron a dog if he came to the White House... then GAVE THAT DOG AWAY and never got the boy another one.
Trump hates dogs. Trump hates kids too. Pass it on. What sort of horrible man would promise his little boy a dog, then snatch it away?
WinstonSmith4740
(3,056 posts)Hadn't heard the dog story...he really promised his son a dog and then reneged on it? Can't say I'm surprised.

(28,347 posts)I already knew Donald was a heartless asshole, but this takes the cake, dammit!
My heart goes out to Barron. Poor kid. I sure hope he doesn't grow up to be like his grifting, greedy siblings.

(81,240 posts)After promising Barron a dog? Lets him see it but not keep it?
If I didnt already hate the donald, Id hate him for THIS!!!
Instead, Ill just hate him all over again.
That poor kid... hes probably ruined.

(7,947 posts)And a "friend" was taking care of the dog until the move to the White House. And supposedly the friend said she loved it too much now to give it up, so Trump said, sorry kid, no dog.
Now I suspect this "friend" was about as real as the "farmer" parents would pretend to send a dog too when they'd actually taken it to the pound.
Then again, Trump might actually have a friend who would dogsit for a few weeks and then tell the child, no, this dog is mine now. More likely though Trump decided he didn't want a "smelly animal" anywhere near him, and told the friend to keep the dog.
I very much hope that Barron's grandparents have gotten him a dog there at the Maryland house where he lives.
Contrast that with the Obamas, who not only got a dog for the girls, but did research and found the one type of dog Malia wouldn't allergic too. Then again, they are good parents.

(115,686 posts)Dog needs more face time. Joe has a dog. Fat Nixon doesn't - he's the only president in living memory not to have any kind of pet in the WH (even Old Nixon had a dog).

(8,574 posts)But Major is the most gorgeously striking black and cream/silver GSD you've ever seen. Seriously. I say that as someone who's always had at least one GSD in the family since I was six, over 50 years ago.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,686 posts)(except for kittens). They are ridiculously adorable because their fur is still soft and their ears are floppy. Grown-up Shepherds are gorgeous dogs, but the puppies just kill me.

(8,574 posts)Long story. Suffice it to say, 4 GSD's are a bit much, but if it's 4 plus 2 other dogs then it's way too much.

(8,574 posts)Major is almost solid black with cream/silver markings, and is the one that was adopted most recently. He's in the pic tblue posted as a reply to my post.

Disaffected
(4,554 posts)I've had several over the years as well as a Belgium Shepard (like a German Shepard with long fur). It's a shame though the pure breds tend to have serious joint problems. My current dog is a rescue GS cross - looks like a smallish GS with floppy ears and a curly tail, just as gorgeous and no joint problems even though she's almost 10 now.
As has been said many times here, whether or not folks have pets says something about them.
