https://www.rawstory.com/2020/07/missouri-school-district-forces-parents-to-sign-19-waiver-for-children/A school district in Missouri is requiring parents to sign a waiver in case children who participate in sports or other activities become infected with COVID-19 and die.
The waiver of liability from Hazelwood School District was shared on Tuesday by attorney Natasha Scruggs.
I feel sick reading it, Scruggs said.
The document asks parents to acknowledge that COVID-19 is a public health crisis and to relinquish their rights to hold the district responsible even if a students death is caused by the negligence of carelessness of school staff.

(63,221 posts)I don't think I would sign such a thing or send my child into such a careless system.

(5,958 posts)Talked with my wife about it. This is messed up.
We know opening the schools is going to kill a certain percentage of kids because of our carelessness, so sign this form and relieve us of all responsibility, because like our pResident, we don't take responsibility at all.
This whole system has become corrupt.
Parents should refuse to sign the form.

(17,438 posts)Do they have to indemnify the school for lawsuits against the school from the other kids that Johnny spreads it to?

(76,119 posts)...parents won't send their kids.
The hope of parents was rooted in a belief that the schools would take every measure to be safe.
Now, the school sends a letter saying "It's not really going to be safe, but not our fault"?
Self-inflicted wound.
Or, did someone on the board do this on purpose? " Hey, we opened the schools, but the kids never showed!"

(3,282 posts)but I don't think even a signed waiver saying so would protect against a death caused by negligence.

(1,207 posts)It will make the "non-maskers," "hoax," and Trumpster idiots in that state think twice when they realize they are talking about the deaths of their loved ones.
Sometimes those fools have to be shocked into "crap! This could happen to me!"

(28,705 posts)If my son was still in school, I would not send him.
I've already lost one child, I just couldn't ... wouldn't endanger my son.
Even under the best of circumstances, I'd never sign a waiver.
My heart goes out to parents, children, teachers, support personnel, etc.

(8,807 posts)Summer drills had started for Fishers High School. One football player came down with it. Superintendent shut down football season immediately. No football this year.
Smart Superintendent, I would say. Given that CDC DUDE said yesterday that fall and winter will be biggest challenge to US public health. EVER.

(3,946 posts)Then you don't have to sign away your child's life? And then you can sue the school district if your child dies due to their negligence?
