FLIPPABLE: Roland Gutierrez for TX-SD19

Representative Gutierrez, his wife Sarah, and their daughters Izabella and Victoria live in the Mission San Jose neighborhood, where they are members of the Mission San Jose Parish and are active in a variety of community projects. Representative Gutierrez has served as Chairman of the Defense and Veterans’ Affairs Committee and the Judiciary and Civil Jurisprudence and is currently a member of the Energy Resources Committee and the Pensions, Investments & Financial Services Committee. During the 85th Legislative Session, Representative Gutierrez has prioritized the well-being of our returning soldiers by proposing the establishment of the National Warrior Resiliency Center in San Antonio by filing House Bill 2571. This center would focus on the treatment of PTSD not only in Military City, but all across the state. Additionally, Representative Gutierrez has authored policy that address sexual assault in Texas through HB 4040 and HB 2072. HB 4040 seeks to establish a crisis call center that will help victims of sexual assault and HB 2072 increases protection against potential sexual assault in massage therapy centers.

After five legislative sessions, Representative Gutierrez continues his efforts with helping the people of his district and ensuring a better future for themselves and their families. He is a strong champion for appropriate funding of public education, affordable public health care, effective public safety and policies to help strengthen the economic security of all Texans. Roland’s top legislative priorities have been working to ensure that Texas offers as much opportunity to our children as it did for Roland. This includes great public schools and ready access to healthcare.

Throughout his legislative career, Representative Gutierrez has seen several of his proposals become law such as the creation of an Urban Bank for the City of San Antonio, HemisFair Park and measures to protect and support of military bases.
During his tenure on the San Antonio City Council, he was a driving force behind the effort to establish Texas A&M University at San Antonio, the city’s second top-tier public university, and helped secure federal resources to fund the San Antonio River project without increasing the tax burden on middle-class families and small businesses. He was also praised for his contribution in landing the Toyota auto manufacturing plant, leading to thousands of new jobs and millions of dollars in new economic resources for the city. In addition, Gutierrez provided the leadership in developing the first library on the south side in more than thirty-one years – the Mission Branch Library.

Roland Gutierrez frequently speaks on immigration issues and its intersection with investment and entrepreneurial ventures. Roland is the honored annual speaker for TexasOne, a program developed by the Governor of Texas which incentivizes greater entrepreneurship in Texas. Roland Gutierrez leads the employment division at the Gutierrez Law Firm. The employment division assists foreign nationals and their families with immigrant and non-immigrant work visas.
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Gutierrez is a 1989 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He earned his BA in Political Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1995 and his Law degree from St. Mary’s University School of Law in 1998. He is the Founder and President of the Gutierrez Law Firm, specializing in immigration law.
