Trump-appointed judge slaps down Tennessee's new anti-abortion law

Pleasantly surprised but deeply grateful. Right-wingers are fuming

"Shortly after a federal judge ruled Monday to halt Tennessee's wide-ranging abortion restriction bill — a decision that came swiftly after Gov. Bill Lee signed the measure into law — high-profile Republicans in the state began bashing the judge.

"An activist judge barely waited until the ink was dry to promote his own pro-choice view," GOP U.S. Senate candidate Manny Sethi tweeted on Monday.

The so-called activist judge they're referring to, U.S. District Judge William "Chip" Campbell, was appointed to the bench by President Donald Trump, and his mother, Beth Campbell, serves as the Tennessee committeewoman to the Republican National Committee.

Campbell on Monday sided with plaintiffs seeking a temporary restraining order to halt Tennessee's controversial heartbeat bill, which bans abortions as early as six weeks, among other restrictions. 

His ruling came within 45 minutes of Lee signing the bill into law. Campbell wrote that the plaintiffs, which include Planned Parenthood, the American Civil Liberties Union and other abortion rights groups, will "suffer immediate and irreparable injury, harm, loss, or damage" if they weren't granted injunctive relief."....(more)

I wonder how many more judges were misjudged by trump into thinking his appointment would guarantee marching in lockstep with the conservatives....
