Government ethics experts across the nation are denouncing Ivanka Trumps late-night endorsement of Goya Foods as a violation of law and ethics especially as it comes just days after the companys CEO appeared on national television in the Rose Garden of the White House to praise President Donald Trump.
If its Goya, it has to be good, the First Daughter and Senior Advisor to the President tweeted Tuesday night, with the statement repeated in Spanish. In her tweet Ivanka Trump is displaying a can of Goya black beans by holding it with her right hand and suggestively motioning to it with her left, as many do when endorsing a product.
Ms. Trumps Goya tweet is clearly a violation of the governments misuse of position regulation, 5 C.F.R. § 2635.702. Ms. Trump has had ethics training. She knows better. But she did it anyway because no one in this administration cares about government ethics, Shaub says.

(25,183 posts)how would any state legal system be involved with that?
Besides, I don't know what the penalties are, but I severely doubt that incarceration is one of them. The worst would probably be a fine that is less than the purported value of a handful of the frills that Ivanka markets to stupid people.

(25,183 posts)For starters, there would be no trial until way after the election, so that would take away an incentive.
Plus, I doubt that Ivanka and Jared own stock in Goya, so there would be no financial reason for her to do this, and that undercuts a case.

(66,352 posts)The CEO donates to Trump's campaign, the Trumps shill for his company on the taxpayers' dime. How is this not a blatant violation of election law?
customerserviceguy
(25,183 posts)I thought that the only thing the CEO did was to say something nice about Trump in public.
In any case, I don't recall anyone going to prison over a violation of a campaign finance law, I seem to recall there only being fines involved. The best prosecutors probably prefer to handle cases that involve some serious punishment, and would leave something like this to an underling, who might not be able to beat someone who the Trumps could afford to hire.

This is getting exhausting. We are just fucked if we don't go after these people if and when we get control of the WH and Senate. If we don't do that, ethics will only be for Democrats and the little people in the future.

"I never expected #idiocracy to become a documentary, tweeted screenwriter Etan Cohen in an apparent jab at the 2016 presidential race.
Together with "Beavis & Butt-head" creator Mike Judge, Cohen co-wrote the time-travel comedy. The plot revolves around the misadventures of a man who wakes up in a futuristic America only to discover that everyone around him, including lawmakers and government officials, is an idiot.
