Unfortunately, they had their crazy people back then, too. At one point, people were shamed and shunned if the Spanish Flu infected their family. In fact, in Colorado there were even signs put on doors and only part of it was to protect others from entering and the other part was to shame the family. I can't imagine it only happened in Colorado and last night as I was watching an international news show, the same thing is happening in Japan. Not the signs, but the shunning and shaming. Hand washing is a very important part of this, but constantly stressing it may not be the answer because there will be crazies who will start believing it's only dirty people who get this.
