https://www.newsweek.com/utah-coronavirus-man-dies-testing-line-1517877An elderly man has died while waiting in line for a COVID-19 test in a clinic's parking lot in Utah.
The 71-year-old nursing home resident was brought by a driver and caretaker to be tested at the Intermountain Healthcare clinic in North Ogden on Sunday.
By the time the vehicle arrived at the front of the line of the drive-thru test site, the man was found "unresponsive, cold to the touch, and likely deceased."
"Testing center caregivers acted quickly and followed correct procedures by immediately calling 911, but EMS workers could not revive the individual," a statement from Intermountain said, reported KUTV.
It is not known at this time if the patient's death was related to COVID-19

(2,018 posts)Test-at-home kits are notoriously garbage. Quality of test results requires proper technique and a reliable type of test. None of the at-home kits is FDA-approved, but they can be sold because theyre under an authorization for unapproved products to be used during a public health crisis. Their accuracy is still unknown, since app we have to go by are manufacturers claims, not trial data.

(34,105 posts)I read that to my husband, who is a very active and with it 71 year old, just to see what would happen. He thought I made it up by the way he looked at me but then said that he was aware that he was now elderly.
I remember elderly people when I was younger and they certainly were not 71 years old!
Egads, I just looked up the definition and it is anyone 65 or older. Crap, me too .

Hard to believe how many years have passed ...

(34,105 posts)I was 48 when I started here the year after you did, 2002. I was 48. Not even 50, jeeze. They do pass quickly but having a place where you "know" people for a long time helps. I imagine at some point most of my interactions are going to be online since I do not live in a community really. Wow, so hard to believe.
back to you other old timer! There are a lot of us who have stuck it out.

This is so sad. That poor man and his poor family.

(22,112 posts)there singing a song while a guy was dying right next to them? Why didn't they immediately call 911? Why didn't they immediately react? Good grief, I'd say that the care worker and/or driver were kind of remiss, or incompetent, eh?

(16,173 posts)Rules must say get tested first. Also, many ERs have reported people *walking in* who plummet and die within a few hours. The variability of condition is a frightening characteristic of this disease.
