San Francisco public school students likely on screens rather than in seats: 'It's not safe to go ba
Given a haircut is still considered unsafe and a trip to the mall not allowed anywhere statewide, opening schools to students and staff in a month is not feasible, San Francisco school officials said.
That means that though a final decision on reopening wont be made for another two weeks, its all but certain the districts students wont be back in class when school starts in August, district officials said Tuesday.
Instead, the San Francisco Unified School Districts 53,000 students would again learn from afar at least at first, with a limited and gradual return to school for small groups once its deemed safe to do so, Superintendent Vincent Matthews said in an update to the school board on the most likely scenario for the first day of class.
Several districts across the Bay Area and the state have already announced decisions to return to full distance learning in the fall, including Los Angeles, San Diego and Oakland.
