An opinion, "Goya Foods controversy is a distraction from 130,000 deaths from pandemic.

...This is a planned orchestrated distraction away from the deaths in the pandemic. Let's argue about something else, Trump decides or his enablers decide. Anything to get away from the issue that Trump failed to prepare for this pandemic, or in the beginning failed to give a damn about the deaths. So let's argue about my daughter and me selling a food brand.

He appears to still not give a damn about the deaths and always talks about what a fine job he is doing to fight the
pandemic. So having a controversy about something else is a distraction from his failure to be a leader and to save lives. Trump knows it, we know it, and that's all there is to this.

He thought this could distract, but it doesn't. But that was, in my opinion, the original thinking behind this absurd stunt.

The Goya focus isn’t a distraction; it’s a balm.

Remember when he was talking about Joe and said, “And this guy’s gonna be President because, maybe, some people don’t love me.”

The Goya pimping is just his way of saying, “See! Some people love me, and if you show me love, I’ll show you love—quid pro quo.”

Trump’s ego is very fragile. He needs to focus on those who “love” him just to hold his ego together. He’s seriously missing his rallies. Goya is merely a substitute.

It's just another version of the infamous taco salad pic, which he posted on Cinco De Mayo and captioned "I love Hispanics".

The whole thing was nothing but a bunch of Hispanic business owners and others going around the table, kissing Trump's ass and and bitching about how Joe Biden is another Fidel Castro, and how the 'Democrat" Party are nothing but a bunch of freedom-hating commies. It was outrageous, yet comical.

This started out as the head of Goya Foods making an appearance in one of Trump's daily circle jerks, where he proceeded to give Dear Leader a HUGE, wet, sloppy kiss. The subsequent "controversy" is just the Trumpsters taking advantage of the call to boycott Goya products that came out of the Trump lovefest, to "piss off the libs." I'm sure there's a bit of free advertising for Goya, too. Got to mitigate the effects of the boycott somehow. They didn't go into this looking for a distraction. They just lucked into one.

I think there is something to be said about the sheer number of stupid and corrupt things that Trump does. He does do it on purpose for a couple of reasons. One, it keeps him in the news cycle and for him, if he is in the news cycle, it is a win. Two, he tries to wear people down by fomenting chaos. He likes to keep people guessing, it is well documented that his negotiators would be close to closing a deal and he would come in and blow it up. He thinks that when there is chaos, he can move around better. This may have worked when he was just a corrupt CEO, but there are people keeping a record here. The office of the President is powerful, but it is more accountable than just being a corrupt real estate guy.

The framing of this as a distraction, I think, does not adequately describe what is happening. Trump cannot distract entirely from a story that continues to affect the lives of everyone in the country. Especially not with silly stories about a CEO licking his boots and getting boycotted for doing so. Coronavirus is a major factor in the Presidential Election coming up in 175 days. It will not be pushed out of the headlines, especially with more states reversing their re-openings and the school opening battle continuing to loom. Trump himself keeps harping on the issue. He says that "people want to keep schools closed because it is bad for the economy and Democrats think it will help them". His people believe him, but 70% of the country are concerned about opening schools and much of the blame for the situation, despite Trump's constant efforts to deflect, are on his shoulders. That is why he is cracking.

He does these stunts to change the narrative, but it is not working like it used to.

Trump has gotten everything he wanted. He is a master at creating or inflaming distractions.

I just wish that our side remained silent when the Goya CEO made a few throwaway kind remarks. I feel for the people who work there. Haven't any of you worried about some stupid ass thing your boss did, that maybe threatened your job even though you were doing it well?
