Georgia governor sues Atlanta mayor over city's mask mandate

(CNN)Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp announced Thursday he is suing Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms over the city's mask mandate, claiming the measure violates his emergency orders.

"This lawsuit is on behalf of the Atlanta business owners and their hardworking employees who are struggling to survive during these difficult times," Kemp tweeted.

"These men and women are doing their very best to put food on the table for their families while local elected officials shutter businesses and undermine economic growth."

The lawsuit marks a stunning escalation in the brewing feud between Kemp and Bottoms after the Atlanta mayor introduced her mandatory mask ordinance. Under the mayor's order, not wearing a mask within Atlanta's city limits was punishable by a fine and even up to six months in jail.

And what happened to that Republican iron law that the government closest to the people affected was best? Here's big government Kemp trying to interfere with local government doing what's best for its citizens. Or is that principle a wee bit more flexible than Republicans hold out?

Because if people don't wear masks we will all shutdown tight again.

Enforcement is fraught, no doubt, but aside from a small number of maskhole whackadoodles that make headlines, we mostly just want things to be safer so we can do our jobs.

I do totally get your point, btw, and you're right, it's blatantly hypocritical. Don't mean to derail.

This ass backwards piece of shit lives in opposite land.

Fuuuuuuuuck.

I hope to God this fucker loses this case and it opens the door for leaders of cities and counties to require masks like rational compassionate human beings would. Because this shit is unconscionable.
