is that here in Washington State, we were doing well, and then the right-wing yahoos in the rural parts of the state decided to flout the ban. Not only is it preventing the state from getting things under control, but they then come back West and reinfect everyone here. People see Washington State as being a hotbed of liberalism, but we have our share of right wing nutjobs as well.

And they are trying to keep people from other states out w/ the exception of VT and NH. If you come from any other state, they are forcing you to quarantine for 14 days before you can go out in public, unless you have proof that you have tested negative for Covid in the previous 72 hours.

I was up there over the 4th of July holiday and they were taking the mask/social distancing policy very seriously in all of the stores/markets. Even my republican family members and their children were going along with it without complaining.

We went into Dock Square in Kennebunkport one day just to get out and walk around and everyone was wearing masks. Even with their low rate of infection, it seems like most people on the southern shore are very compliant. And the Northern and far Eastern parts of the state are not very densely populated.

The biggest breakouts were in Cumberland County (Portland area) and they have been very strict on trying to contain it as well.

The media should be talking about this instead of only the GOP attitude where they are anti-mask. Maybe if more GOPers saw this they'd be a little more open minded about the success of wearing a mask and distancing. It couldn't hurt. Go talk to a school board meeting's audience in Maine instead of one in Utah where the audience just came in from an organized GOP rally.

10. Well, the southern Maine coast has often been referred to as "northern Massachusetts" so

there is a very strong liberal influence there. The further north and east you go, the less of it there is. That is where the GOP base is in the state.

Also, a majority of the tourists in south-coastal ME are from MA as well, so the natives in the tourist areas want to stay on their good side to keep the buisness coming in. I did get the distinct impression that some of them really resented it though.

I'm not sure if they resent it and are just going along with it, or if they really believe it's the right thing to do, but I felt pretty safe there even though we weren't out in public very much. Almost all of them were cooperating though.

Their POTUS made this far, far worse in every way imaginable. The Dems are the ones that should resent it. I know I do. 11. Rhode Island was in the Green for so long, but now

our numbers are on the upswing. Our Governor, Gina Raimondo, has kept a tight hand on our regs, and for the most part, people were responding. Once the bars and beaches opened up, the arrow went north. Charlie Baker in next door MA is another stickler for adherence.

I have no doubt that another couple weeks of increasing numbers will result in both MA and RI shutting down again. In fact, I'm preparing for that by stocking up on items that disappeared in the first round (rice, t.p., etc.)

It's my concern that this second round will be longer termed and more deeply felt than what we've already experienced. It's just a hunch - I have no inside info or any other basis, and I actually hope I'm wrong. Right or wrong, tho...at least I'll be prepared.
