The only thing that breaks them from the cult is when it affects them.

Until a republican’s mother/son/daughter/wife/husband dies or is permanently crippled by COVID-19, no amount of other people’s misery will affect them at all.

the Trump Train is long past. There’s no new info going to come out about how to prevent the spread of the virus. They’ve already come down as anti mask anti social distancing. To dump Twitler over the pandemic would mean they have to start supporting masks and distancing.

Even with the seemingly horrible numbers, 140,000 people dead are a small fraction of the population of this country. Even the total cases is only a bit above 1% of the population. Which is why a lot of people out there can honestly say they don't know anyone whose gotten this, let alone know anyone who has died.

Don't know in terms of the DJA point drops or unemployment numbers, but that's basically all they care about.

In other words, the point at which the general public no longer participates in rampant consumerism but instead goes into survival mode.

I live around quite a few Trump humpers. All they do all day long is watch Fox. Any time you try to have a meaningful conversation with them, their eyes glaze over.

I have talked to Republicans who are extremely well-educated in their fields. So you would think they would exhibit some sign of critical thinking skills. No.

There is a nurse who lives across the street from me. A Republican. She's totally convinced that Trump's miracle drug, hydroxychloroquine, is the cure-all for Covid-19. Never mind the fact that all the tests have shown otherwise, and that the drug can hurt and kill you.

Today she got into an argument with a Democratic neighbor about the fact that children need to go back to school. Her words, not that of the Democrat. He valiantly tried to explain why that is a very bad idea. Crickets.

Nothing is going to sway these people. They are so far beyond brainwashed, there is no coming back for them.

send their children back to school, without concern for their safety.... within twenty-one days, minds will change.

And they will want our sympathy, support for their gofundme accounts, and understanding on why they put their children at risk...

Then, at the funerals, the hospitals - then, when they realize that Trump does not care about them, their children, then they will understand.

At least collectively. Individually, it will depend on how it personally impacts them. I knew a few people that died from it. How many do they know?

Why would you ask such a question, with such an obvious answer? The only deaths that register with this group of “charming” individuals is corporate or lobbyists deaths and that is only until they find a replacement for their campaign coffers.

into heaven, nihilists who just want to watch everything be destroyed, or individuals who are so mentally damaged/stupid/evil that they cannot perceive reality.

The major surprise of my life has been to realize how many millions upon millions of the above sorts are living in the US.

Best of all, grandma quits telling them what to do.

Republican multi-millionaires don't think any differently.

If a few younger people die, they all figure it won't be them.
