(since it's not as rigid here, going to just highlight what's important and not the whole article)
Hetrick does keep a mask on hand, but says he refuses to wear one over his nose and usually keeps it pulled down over his snow-white beard, as well.
Hetrick said hes kept his mask pulled down even in places like Costco, which became among the first in a growing list of national retailers to mandate mask-wearing. Hes never been refused a purchase, but he has been called out by members of the public, some of whom he calls mask zealots.
Its a symbol of control, and its a symbol of fear, said Hetrick, whos not a medical doctor, but a certified medicolegal death investigator and elected county coroner for more than 30 years.
When we walk into any damn store, its not fun anymore: Line up here. Step on that dot. Do you got your mask? Look at peoples posture -- bent over, slumped over. Look at the people driving in a car alone with a mask on. Look at the people jogging with masks on. Now were supposed to wear them outside. Theyre going to put you out in 80-degree temperatures with a mask on? It has become this zealot religion for some of these people: Im in such fear of dying; Im going to refuse to live?
When the fucking coroner won't wear a mask where the hell are we at?

(3,699 posts)When one sees control and fear, s/he is projecting her/is own inner-child ego and sense of helplessness.
Refusing to wear a mask and being triggered by those who do is an EGO issue.
Ego ergo, "I" can't be wrong!" Absolute certainty and concomitant defensiveness arises from inner child tantrums and fear.
The more 'certain' anyone is, as I see them, the more certain I am that they are deeply fearful.

(62,521 posts)what a fucking odd statement.
just another self-righteous moron.
I never found going to a store much fun in the first place. It is something that is usually a necessity, not my idea of fun. I think the guy needs a hobby.
I always hated shopping.
I have never ever found it a "fun experience" in my life.

(47,401 posts)treated shopping like a pastime or some kind of sport. I usually dreaded it and couldn't wait to get out of the store. Then I worked quite a few years in retail and hated shopping that much more. There are so many interesting and often "fun" things to do with one's free time, why would anyone want to spend it in a store?

Disclaimer here.. Talk is cheap, I'm not rich (I don't own a business) so I am going to do some cheap talkin', I AM cynical, and am rapidly devolving into a rant...
rant/on...
Costco should escort his ass out the door. If he resists, call the police and have him arrested for blatantly ignoring the rules and attempting to harm the public.
If it is MY business, your freedoms end where I say they do. Abide by the rules or shop elsewhere.
If that is unacceptable to the shopping public, I would close the business, and make SURE everyone knows why. Huge sign saying BUSINESS CLOSED BECAUSE PUBLIC REFUSES TO WEAR MASKS.
Then those delicate little flower zealots would be all offended, and although they WOULDN'T wear masks, they WOULD probably have the courage to take revenge in the middle of the night and BURN MY BUSINESS TO THE GROUND.
Fine. I would then put up ANOTHER BIG SIGN saying BUSINESS WILL NOT BE REBUILT DUE TO PUBLIC'S LACK OF CONCERN FOR COMMUNITY'S HEALTH.
I would then let the pile of burned ashes sit there, using it as a tax write off. 'Cause SMART people don't pay taxes. Some really stable genius said that, once.
rant/off
People are going to pay, one way or the other. Is the fact that you are bored, or experiencing cabin fever worth your, or someone else's parent's or grandparent's, or ANYONE'S life? Is getting rid of the kids by sending them back to school, worth your, or someone else's parent's or grandparent's, or ANYONE'S life? Is paying your bills and putting food on the table worth your, or someone else's parent's or grandparent's, or ANYONE'S life?
Yes, (some of) these are difficult questions.
If we cave, we are going to lose. People can't shop if they are dead, or too AFRAID of catching the virus to go outside. If they are too afraid to shop, businesses will close because they can't afford to stay open.
The end result is the same, but recovery one way will take a lot longer than the other.
How many deaths will it take? Does a death only matter if it touches YOUR life?

(1,648 posts)I am pretty damn sure everyone in the United States has known for a very long time whenever they went into a restaurant...
"NO SHIRT NO SHOES NO SERVICE" and they would be told to leave.
When was the last time there was a big Republican push to defy that order telling them what to do, which has been accepted by everyone for years without question?
That is how you know all those against masks are just assholes that do not even want to be in a society that respects others.
