General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI Am Constantly Outraged by Donald J. Trump. However,
I do not think there is any way to stop him before the November election. My outrage continues, but I believe that there is nothing I can do to remove him from office before November 3. I do not believe there is anything any of us can do that will get rid of him before then.
So, I'm not expending my energy on being outraged. Instead, I'm looking for ways to help him lose that election on November 3. It is too late to do anything that will get him out of office before the election.
I recommend, instead, working in whatever way you can on making sure that people vote on November 3. We may well need to have an overwhelming number of people voting for Joe Biden to counteract efforts on Trump's part to steal the election. We can help with that by individually making sure that each of us helps two or three or even more people vote for Biden.
Please consider taking the energy you are expending in being outraged and put it to use helping Joe Biden win in November, along with every other possible Democratic candidate for public office.
That is how we will rid ourselves of Donald Trump. It is the only way we will do that.
Thank you for reading this post.

(146,262 posts)It's just a matter of putting that outrage to work doing something that can accomplish a goal.
That's what I'm recommending, you see.

(12,265 posts)I do think he will step down if he loses big in November so Pence can pardon him and his minions. I hope so for our sake, what damage he could do between November and January 20th is mind boggling.

(146,262 posts)I've said as much many times here on DU. But, first, we must win in a landslide victory. We can do that, but we will have to work to get people to vote in November.

(987 posts)I just returned from a trip to a local fruit/farm market - mainly to pick up my order of tart cherries, but also other things. I really try to buy local as much as possible. But back on track - this place is out in the country and DU friends - from the number of signs I saw, it is Trump country. Big time. It is pretty obvious the community is behind Trump 100% and will be voting. And those are just the people who aren't too embarrassed to put up a Trump sign i.e. I'm pretty sure there are a whole lot of closet Trump voters out there, too. So as it has been stated many times we must be engaged in beating Trump and his cronies Every. Single. Day. between now and November. Stay focused. Stay strong.

(16,616 posts)The outrage can be used as fuel for doing the things you recommend. I'd have to pretend I don't see what's going on in order not to experience outrage. Rather than having to pick one to the exclusion of the other, I see them as complimentary, or as in harmony.
But I take your point!
MineralMan
(146,262 posts)seem to think their outrage is enough and that Trump is doomed to lose. That is most definitely not true.

(1,789 posts)We also have to get rid of the politics that led to Trump. The readiness for someone like him was a pre-existing condition. A whole block of republican voters rejected McCain and Romney for not being nasty enough or insulting enough. The perfect candidate for them was a myth until Trump filled the role.
We need to show the world this November that this type of politics has no future. Eventually, politicians will go to where the people are. It is imperative that we make clear where they are now.

(115,612 posts)he does something outrageous - sometimes several times a day. I don't want his outrageousness to become normalized, but at the same time we know by now that he can be expected to do outrageous things all the time. It's actually surprising when he makes it through a whole day without flinging poo like an orangutan on meth. For that reason there's not much point in freaking out over the latest outrage. It's exhausting. Don't act like he's normal, just get him the hell out of the White House.

(6,576 posts)...at this point I actually *want* Trump in office on Nov 3, for a few reasons:
1) I want him to suffer humiliating defeat.
2) I don't want Pence at the top of the ticket. I see a lot of life-long Republicans who will vote for Biden over Trump, but I believe many of them would vote for Pence over Biden, so having Pence at the top of the ticket makes it harder for Biden to win.
3) I don't want POTUS Pence to give Trump a blanket pardon. (Yes, I realize Trump could resign on January 19 & Pence could pardon him before noon on the 20th.)

(10,824 posts)Eyes on the only prize that matters at the moment--the complete obliteration of Trump and his enablers. That means taking control of the WH, House and Senate, so that we can repair the hideous damage Trump has wrought, shore up our institutions and then forge ahead with the pressing needs of the country.
It's why a electoral blowout is necessary. Not simply for vengeance (although I feel plenty vengeful) but to completely repudiate the false and distorted ideology of Trumpism itself. This isn't the first time the country has veered towards the Dark Side. However, now is the time to rip this particular strain out, root and branch as McConnell is so fond of saying.
Outrage can be a motivator to get things done. On the reverse side, outrage can leave people fatigued and hopeless. We cannot afford the latter or anything else that distracts from the priority of indisputably beating Trump, humiliating him and his enablers and forcing them all to crawl back under their rocks.
Our futures depend on a huge victory on November 3rd. Losing is not an option.

(22,235 posts)as well as the candidate campaigns. There are Democratic Woman's Clubs all over the nation, and they are fired up. They are busy raising money, registering voters, postcard writing and registering voters.
Our local club has 300 members and we are working on creative ways to raise money since we can't hold a big bash in these very strange times. We will donate as much as possible to the Democratic Women who will be on the ballot in Tarrant County Texas.
I encourage every Democrat to join as many of these groups as possible; dues are small (our dues are $35 per year); donate to them and support them however you can.

(6,908 posts)It isnt too late to cut a deal and resign. Unlikely, but its the only way, perhaps, to stay out of jail like his buddy Epstein.
And since Trumps tactic is to stall, let him do that from confinement. I can wait five or ten years for the legal system to play out...as long as Trump remains incarcerated somewhere. Let him wait in a jail cell until all of the appeals have run out.

(4,030 posts)I am gratified that the workings of my simple mind have come to fruition.
The day Biden said that he was entering the race, I stated that he would be the nominee. And, very early on, I also stated that a close election will more than likely result in a loss for Dems. A landslide is what is needed to overcome a close (rigged) election.
Thanks, MM.

(9,090 posts)dems are too quick to assume close votes and GOP election wins are due to public are due to 'human nature' - apathy, ignorance, the general effects of corporate money and media.
media is the difference but by ignoring radio, many democratic strategies are practically worthless.
at $1000/hr x 15 hrs/day x 1200 radio stations GOP's radio GOTV is worth $90MIL/wk FREE, reaching 50 mil/wk and that advantage has gotten NO direct pushback from democrats or progressives except a few boycott actions that were largely ignored by established dem and progressive organizations.
for years a lot of outrage and activism has been aimed at symptoms of a major democratic and progressive oversight/mistake
major attention is given to pushing back at regressive republican activism (like from ALEC) used to deregulate, to suppress voting, to criminalize, to separate, to roll back rights, to elect and place corporate lackeys, etc. and most of that progressive activism is in response AFTER the country has been blasted with the unchallenged widespread lies and distortions used to create the made-to-order constituencies that make republican regression possible.
there are think tanks all over the country pushing that crap. high paid PR pros sit around looking for progress, yawn, design PR to counter or distort it. or push what or who they want. unlike other media those radio stations can be locally coordinated and are constantly turning molehills into mountains and visa versa as coordinated and fed by the RW media apparatus.
so someone, maybe russian, feeds/triggers jerome corsi and rush limbaugh to turn ebola into a major obama failure and threat to america and by blowing it up in october 2014 can turn 9 senate seats and go silent on the subject after the election success, as if ebola attacking america never happened. and to most democrats it never did happen and we blame the democratic party, obama, and lousy, non-progressive or too liberal candidates.....
we cannot have fact-based national discussions about any issue until democrats stop ignoring the talk radio monopoly.
there is a perfect storm headed at talk radio and democrats would be continuing the biggest political mistake in history if they don't take advantage of it-
1/limbaugh dying will disrupt their united chorus as replacements position to take his hours and the ad industry faces 15 hrs/week on 600 stations losing considerable ad value
2/ artificial intelligence means talk radio is easy and cheap to digitize and RW radio advertisers may face stoprush x 100 if the ad industry doesn't preemptively finally impose actual market demand for the hate, racism, and lies by asking advertisers if they really want to support trump, racism, global warming, etc
3/ exposure of putin/russian use of talk radio since at least 2008 will greatly reduce its influence - including using limbaugh and sons to deny and delay action on COVID and getting tens of thousands killled
4/ exposure of trump admin dependence on and coordination with limbaugh/talk radio since 2014 at least - the collusion right under our noses
5/ attention to the fact that the RW radio monopoly is heavily dependent on black athletes who play for at least 87 universities and many pro teams that broadcast sports on hundreds of RW radio stations - an unholy alliance between republican propaganda and pro sports
a few athletes telling their teams they don't want them to keep supporting attacks on BLM can completely destroy the
the only unique advantage republicans have
