Sen. Bernie Sanders railed against the "absolute absurdity" of the private health care system on Tuesday after a study found that more than five million Americans had lost their coverage amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The Vermont senator said the study was evidence of the private health care system's faults, and urged for health care to be made a "human right" under a Medicare for All package.
"What we are witnessing is the absolute absurdity of our profit-driven, employer-based, private health care system," Sanders tweeted. "Health care can no longer be an employee benefitwe must make it a human right, through Medicare for All."
The former Democratic primary candidate's tweeted linked to a New York Times report on a new study from the advocacy group Families U.S.A., which estimated that 5.4 million Americans had lost their health insurance coverage between February and May.

(92,136 posts)is the way to go for those not under Medicare at this time, along with expanding Medicaid.
The reason many have lost their health insurance is because of what the republicans have done that last 3 and a half years whittling down the ACA. That occurred with the contribution of the likes of the Susan Sarandon's, David Sirota's, Brihanna Joy Gray's, Cornel West's, etc. who encouraged a good number of folks NOT to vote for the Democratic nominee in 2016.
The pathetic thing is that David Sirota and Brihanna Joy Gray are spewing same crap they did in the 2016 against Hillary in the general election, are now doing it against Biden

(92,136 posts)years, and it still incurs additional costs. Many people do not understand that Medicare for all is not free. Also, Medicare does not eliminate private insurance companies. That is what supplemental coverage is about.
Who is going to pay the premiums for these new people coming into Medicare?
That is why expanding Medicaid, plus incorporating a public option or single payer is much more viable at this time

AND pandemic disease would have been stopped and contained in America.
For shame.
In 2016, America was considered the best prepared nation on the planet to stop epidemic disease! Both at home and as the leader in containing it abroad.
For shame that we did not.

(68,546 posts)Single payer won't happen...realistically, we have moderate house members that won't vote for it. The ACA with a public option will lead to universal coverage and fix the problem with states not expanding medicaid.
