Suspect Is Arrested in Grisly Killing of Tech C.E.O. Fahim Saleh

Mr. Saleh, 33, was found dismembered and decapitated inside his Manhattan apartment.

The personal assistant of a young tech entrepreneur who was found decapitated and dismembered in his Manhattan apartment this week was arrested early on Friday and is expected to be charged in the grisly killing, according to two officials briefed on the matter.

The entrepreneur, Fahim Saleh, 33, was discovered dead on Tuesday afternoon by his sister inside his $2.25 million condo in a luxury building on the Lower East Side, the police said. She had gone to check in on him after not hearing from him for about a day.

She found a gruesome scene: Mr. Saleh’s head and limbs had been removed, and parts of his body had been placed in large plastic bags. An electric saw was still plugged in nearby.

The personal assistant, Tyrese Devon Haspil, 21, was expected to be charged in a criminal complaint with second degree murder and other crimes.

Really, really, really bad assistant. Assistant allegedly stole money from the victim, which victim discovered. Victim wanted assistant to repay him the money. So apparently that was the motive.

Grisly but funny.

I'd like to know why this is a second degree murder charge rather than first? Certainly sounds premeditated with plenty of malice and absolutely gruesome in detail. Can't imagine finding a scene like this. Yikes!

Please, cut it out with the snarky jokes and show some compassion for the murder victim.

But sometimes we are presented with a situation so horrible and unfathomable that humor is a defense mechanism for our sanity. I think it is human nature.

When I was diagnosed with bladder cancer humor kept me sane. Laughed at my situation.

I get gallows humor and coping humor but it's hard to discern tone and there were a few in a row with no real sympathy to be found.

I also use humor - for just about everything; however, this story is brutal and disturbing. So the humor seems out of place to me and that's simply my opinion. I think some just see a headline and react. I get that too but I think this story deserves at least a little processing.

Empathy is what I wish and hope for before seeing people resorting to humor in cases like this.

And for what it's worth; I worry more about the family and loved ones of the victim being offended when they come across this kind of stuff from all over the internet. I have no real right to be offended, they do though.
