Project Lincoln supports 'The John Lewis Voting Rights Act' of 2021

Jon Favreau
@jonfavs
Joe Biden should announce that the first bill he’ll introduce as President is the John Lewis Voting Rights Act of 2021, a law that would guarantee every American the right to vote and the right to equal representation.

so agree with this. We must end this modern "drive-by Jim Crowism" used to keep the cynical in power. Civil rights and voting rights are universal rights.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Act, 2021

1) Every American is registered to vote (through Automatic Voter Registration, and that includes those who’ve been incarcerated)

2) Every American receives a ballot (through the mail, like citizens in multiple states do now)

3) Every American has the opportunity to cast their ballot (through universal early voting, making Election Day a national holiday, and fully funding polling locations)

4) Every American has the right to full representation in government (including citizens of DC, Puerto Rico, and other territories if they choose)

5) Every American has the right to an equal voice in the House of Representatives (through the end of partisan gerrymandering)

6) Every American has the right to an equal voice in the U.S. Senate (through an end to the filibuster’s 60-vote threshold, as a start)

7) Every American has the right to an equal voice in their vote for President (every state’s electors go to the winner of the national popular vote, as 15 states have already chosen to do)

(8) The supervision of Southern States voting enacted by the Voting Rights Action, 1965 is restored.

In 2009, with the economy falling through the floor, we thought the Republican could vote as patriots, and put the Constitution and the nation first. Silly us!. Not this time. Biden has the smarts to get legislation through, but all and sundry have to put maximum pressure on Congress.

For God sakes - Fuck the lobbyists, Do The Right Thing!

I'd also like to see legislation that effectively overturns Citizens United and reduces the influence of Big Money in politics.

We can have that.

Give Americans a voice - ALL Americans - we can have a lot of legislation.

As I recall, the Citizens United ruling shot down a legislative effort to curb Big Money in elections.

MF45, following McConnell's obstructionism during Obama's term, has been an absolute disaster. Far too many RW judges, who will be extremely difficult to dislodge, have already been installed.

President Biden will begin to reverse that, but it will take decades to flush the Trumpian legacy down the toilet with him.

Will have those judicial appointments boots on their necks for 20 years after I'm gone.

But if we get the WH and Senate - we can run down the clock on Demographics.

And maybe a truth and reconciliation committee can get rid of some of Trumps most unqualified and compromised.

should be invested in a Voting Rights Act worthy of John Lewis' name. I discounted Pete Buttigieg when he said Voting Rights would be his first priority, but with everything that has happened, if we haven't got a the right to vote, we haven't got anything.
