Ga. governor sues to "restrain" Mayor Keisha Bottoms from press statements & speaking to press

Keisha Lance Bottoms @KeishaBottoms (Mayor of Atlanta)
In addition to being sued over a mask mandate and voluntary advisory guidelines on COVID-19, @GovKemp has asked for an emergency injunction to “restrain” me from issuing press statements and speaking to the press. Far more have sacrificed too much more for me to be silent.

How on earth did it end up that major urban centers aren’t so powerful within each state that the state governments dare to elect such idiots?

California and New York OUGHT to be the most powerful part of the country.
Atlanta, Minneapolis, Detroit, Philadelphia, Houston, Indianapolis, Milwaukee OUGHT to be the power center for their respective states.
Instead they are often held captive to state government dominated by republicans. The state governments in some cases have prevented higher minimum wage laws or prohibited cities from taking actions necessary to make the city function better or be more healthy.

The republicans have a “states rights” daydream, democrats need a “cities rights” corollary. We need a strategy.

The governor of Georgia wants to forbid the mayor of Georgia’s capital city from speaking to the press?

Why? Because she speaks the truth? Because she speaks coherently? Because she speaks common sense?

Hmmm, I think I just answered my own question.

Back before the Berlin Wall fell, whenever we would visit socialist East Berlin, the police would seize all newspapers and magazines before letting a westerner in. Can’t have any of them differing points of view infiltrating, can we? The Republicans are the closest thing to Stalinists we have, and yet they keep calling US “kommanists.”

Athens-Clarke County is a blue city and the regional hub for business, manufacturing, higher education and health care. Athens is surrounded by red counties, whose citizens use its services, but hate Democrats, black and brown people and progressive politics.

Seeking a restraining order to SILENCE the Mayor of Atlanta—a person who has a duty to speak for and report to her constituents?

That’s silly. I can’t imagine any Court granting that. Besides, it’s really bad optics, for Kemp, not to mention just plain stupid.

I think Kemp is bending over backwards to do the things he *thinks* Trump would want him to do, just like when he opened the bowling alleys and tattoo parlors back in April.

Trump took that opportunity to actually throw him under the bus a little, and if our hospitals get overwhelmed (which is looking more and more likely) Kemp will be firmly placed under the wheels of the Greyhound.

I don't think Trump is actively directing Kemp. He doesn't have to.

It’s important to note that Kemp has not sued other GA Mayors who have instituted stricter rules for COVID-19 than the state. Examples include Savannah who has a mask mandate along with Athens, GA. So why has he not sued those Mayors? I believe this is a political hit since Keisha Lance Bottoms is in the running for VP with the added benefit that it will scare other cities of doing the same.

Edit to answer by own question: Yes he can! Here are the requirements in the State of Georgia: "Act of malfeasance or misconduct while in office; violation of oath of office; failure to perform duties prescribed by law; willfully misused, converted, or misappropriated, without authority, public property or public funds entrusted to or associated with the elective office to which the official has been elected or appointed.
