General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am over 65, the Republicans don't care if I die.
Look at the Republicans' response to the crisis:
Red States ignoring CDC guidelines and opening precipitously too soon.
The politicizing of wearing face masks.
Gov. Kemp (R) of Georgia RESCINDING Atlanta's Mayor Keisha Bottoms mask wearing mandate.
Gov. DeSantis (R) of Florida bragged about how quickly the state was able to reopen due to his great response to the pandemic and now Florida is the epicenter of the pandemic in the entire world. And still DeSantis declares that most people are hardly affected by the virus at all and the media is over hyping it for political purposes.
It all paints a clear picture. The Republicans just don't care if older people die.
They don't care that covid-19 hits older people the hardest, they don't care because they consider older Americans to be a surplus, unproductive segment of the population.
How Dickensian of them.

(4,392 posts)still: a)Hold high-ranking corporate management positions; b)Many augment their SS with positions that like POC and other minorities, must serve as productive humans in low-wage, non living wage jobs when those younger still must support families, have made life choices that aren't wise, are unde-reducated, or just plain can't find good jobs that allow active participation in extra-survivalist activities/behaviors within their community. Just face it, Trump's supported by members of his party's biotry, prejudice, racism, knows no bounds - He is the most perfectly disgusting excuse for a human being ever to have graced the Oval Office!

(8,922 posts)Obviously they don't give one shit about older folks. They WANT us to die so they don't have to pay us our social security and Medicare. These are evil, fascist fucks.

I'm surprised we don't have euthanasia yet.

(16,109 posts)they don't care if anyone dies....well, they care about their billionaire patrons and themselves.
They are a death cult. They don't care if people die as long as they continue to hold power.

(7,849 posts)all expendable...a drag on society...I live in Texas ..the asshole Lt Governor was one of the first to advocate sacrificing my life for the sake of Trump's racid economy..and he and Governor Covid Abbott sent poorly qualified doctors into nursing homes to guinea-pig the infirmed elderly with experimental drugs...well, I say this...I will not give the orange maggot and his slobbering sycophants the satisfaction of dying...I will crawl over glass to vote them out and Biden in...and I will live long enough to see them prosecuted...and then I want world peace...

(5,376 posts)the higher rate of hospitalizations among minorities is an added bonus for the Republicans.

(9,952 posts)some will die. Willing my death at the expense of continuing opening up as if there is not issue. I mean, when these family members argue not doing this smart, responsibly and pragmatically, they are arguing that my death doesn't mean much. That is really offensive, I tell you.

(7,849 posts)my 20 year old grandson and 23 year old granddaughter are terrified that I will get it...that I will suffer...they absolutely don't have Que Sera Sera disregard for the the elderly...

(9,952 posts)Neither can bring themselves to visit and possibly give covid to me. A couple days ago one son said he was so desperate to be in the mountains. I told him, come visit. He thought about it a couple days and concluded he just could not take that chance. He is concerned about the server so doesn't sit in an outdoor place to get a coffee. He is concerned about being responsible killing any old people. He said to me, mom you are going to have so much fun being old. I want you to be able to do that and not have a lifetime aftermath problem with covid.
Yes. They take it seriously. And that would be the difference between youth that are progressive and voting Dems, and the one that is a Trump supporter.
Of course the nephew loves me, they just do not think thru in order to support Trump.

(7,849 posts)not because they will infect me but I live in Texas, a mega viral hotspot, and I'm terrified I would unknowingly bring it to them...

(7,849 posts)one has nothing to do with the other...those idiots are nothing more than adult 3 year olds...put on a coat...no!...drink your milk..no!...wear a mask...no!...I get that the orange maggot is their go-to guy but the magnitude of their stupidity (and Trump's) is one for the books...

(9,952 posts)do not have to die, or have a lifetime problem.

(5,376 posts)It's just not worth the risk.
If Trump and the Republicans really were concerned with "opening up" the economy, they would be for a national mask mandate.
Seriously, it's like they actually want to spread the disease as widely as possible, consequences be damned.
